Root S-On - Radio Update?

SportsPT

OK, I have been looking throughout this forum and over at XDA and still haven't found a suitable answer. I would like to update my firmware to the latest but am rooted with S - ON. Any ideas what the best option is? My thought was to unroot and RUU, accept the update, then re-root. These seems a bit involved though and am wondering if anyone has something easier? Also can I just run the RUU if I have TWRP installed, if not how do I run the RUU?

It depends on your H-boot number, not whether you are S-OFF or S-ON.

Based on your post, I am assuming you are S-ON with H-boot 1.15. If this is NOT true, the following information does not pertain to you.

You cannot flash radios or firmware with hboot 1.15. So you have 3 options.

1) Lock the bootloader, and run the updated RUU
2)Lock the bootloader, run the old RUU, and take the OTA

3) RECOMMENDED -----Do NONE of the above, and do not update your radios.

Why do I recommend option 3? Because many believe that since HTC upgraded everyone to hboot 1.19 on the last OTA, there must be a vulnerability that they discovered that would allow you to get S-OFF. Upgrading would close this exploit.

Why do you want to upgrade the radios? There usually is not much of a gain for me. If you can wait it out, that would be my recommendation

Thanks for the info, yes i am on Hboot 1.15 (hence the S-on)..I wanted to upgrade my radios because I was updated my FreshROM and had many issues with the latest update (still can't get it too work - always have to restore nadriod of previous version). For future reference, how do I re-lock the bootloader prior to running the RUU?

I find that video to be very helpful for setup.\

If you know your way through fastboot you can skip the video. The command is "fastboot oem lock"

What sorts of issues are you experiencing?

Edit:

Just noticed you were from MN as well ;)

Wouldn't flash correctly, would have to restart into the bootloader and restore everytime. Tried downloading twice, no luck. I am also having SU and busy box issues which are pretty weird too, so that might have something to do with it. They both say I have no root which I obviously do if I am running dif ROMs. I think I will try and re flash the older version of the ROM after a full wipe and get that working straight then try the update. Phone seems to work fine, but just some odd bugs when flashing.

Opps...yes MPLS!

Sounds to me like it could simply be a bad download. Have you tried checking the md5 before flashing? Tried re-downloading?

Opps...yes MPLS!

Me too! :)
