Help S-pen issue?

My spen is acting weird. About an inch from the screen it thinks I'm on it. I never had this issue with my T-Mobile note 2. And when I actually thouch the screen it doesn't recognize the touch. Odd. Ideas?

When I was having issues with my S-pen I just tapped the tip against the table 4-5 times and it seemed to work a lot better. I did not slam or beat the S-pen only a few light taps.
