S2 Factory Reset (Rooted)

Hi there,

Please can someone tell me if it is safe for me to do a factory reset on my Galaxy S2 running gingerbread that is currently Rooted?

Also, as my phone is an unlocked version, whenever I check for an update it says no update available, is this because it's rooted or because it's unlocked?

Not sure about what happens if you factory reset a rooted phone, but from what I read, you shouldn't lose your root with the reset. If you are rooted, you could do a full backup of the phone so you could get it back to the way you want. I think its called Nandroid backup.

You are not getting official updates from Kies most likely due to your root. Unbranded phones gets updates just fine as long as its recognized by Kies.

If you want ICS, and since you are rooted, maybe you could just flash the latest one on your own.

Oh... I think you would get more help if you post this in the All-Root Section.

Cheers

Hello and welcome to the mad house known as, "All Things Root", Waqasbutt86! :)

Russell is correct, you will not lose root by doing a factory reset.

You should perhaps make a Titanium and nandroid backup's first. See here.

Here is a very good guide by Hawker on how to Factory Reset and wipe your phone in a few easy steps. See here.

You cannot receive updates via Kies if you are rooted and not running your original, out-of-the-box firmware. More details in post #1, here.
