S2 Loses Data Connection and Never Recovers

Help!

My 2-year old GS2 has started dropping its data connection, and then never recovers unless I reboot it.
Just tried a factory reset and that hasn't helped.

No idea what to try next. Completely out of ideas.

The symptoms are strange....

It works fine for a few minutes after bootup, and then drops from an 'H+' to an 'H' and then just sits there with the green arrow blinking intermittently (the orange arrow never blinks). No data is every transferred.

Eventually, after a few minutes, the data connection disappears from the status bar altogether, never to return.

I've tried switching in and out of Aircraft mode to reset it. This just seems to compound the problem. It says it's in aircraft mode, yet the 'Signal' symbol is not replaced with an 'Aircraft' symbol for several minutes.
Then switching it back out of Aircraft mode results in a "No Signal" symbol, and no signal is ever received (let alone a data connection).

Reboot, and everything's fine again for a short while.

The fact that it works fine after booting implies to me the hardware is ok (or is that just e being naive?).

I'm on T-Mobile (now EE) , standard ICS 4.0.4. Build IMM76D.XWLPT.

Any help/suggestions much appreciated
