S2 touchscreen - heat only? help please

I've just started using my galaxy s2, all the touchscreen phones i've had in the past i've been able to touch with the end of my nails. I have VERY long nails and finding this phone impossible to use.
It's a long shot but is there any settings that i can change or is it just the way the screens made? I just wondered why the stylus pens are being sold on ebay if thats the case?

Possibly, your previous phones had resistive touch screens as opposed to a capacitive touch screen.

as ironass explained u wont be able to use ur nails on any new smartphones, they pretty much all use capacitive touchscreens these days.. and the old-type stylus wont work, u'd want a capacitive stylus that'd work on ur screen if u really cant use ur fingertip

I've actually solved it by using Swype - godsend!
