S2 Yellow Triangle Freeze Screen

Newbie
I sent a PM to IronAss but I appreciate that he is likely bombarded with people like me who have failed in the rooting process somewhere, and as I am currently phoneless as a result I felt it best to post my problem in here with a hope that someone has experienced it before and can point me in the right direction.

I followed your guide for rooting the Samsung Galaxy S2 (Rooting Galaxy S2 - A Dummies Guide) and all went well until it came to the phone rebooting.

It freezes on the screen showing the make and model of the phone with the yellow exclamation triangle underneath.

I have tried what you noted in the guide, i.e. "Should you encounter any problems with booting automatically at this stage, put your phone into Recovery mode by turning it off completely and then press and hold the following buttons... Volume Up + Home (centre hard key) + (lastly) Power. Continue to hold these buttons until your phone boots into the Recovery screen. See video. Then select, "wipe cache partition", and under, "Advanced", "wipe dalvik cache", and then, "Go back", and select, "reboot system now". Your phone should now boot up."

It was to no avail as it still just sticks on the same screen.

Have you any ideas how to resolve this?

The kernel used from the phone details was KI4.

Thanks in advance for any assistance provided, it is greatly appreciated.

Which kernel did you root with?

Can you get into download mode?
(VOL-DOWN+HOME+POWER)

If so, try flashing another rooted kernel via Odin (eg. another cf-root, or Siyah)
If this still fails, then you will have to flash the whole firmware (download from SamMobile) This will get you booting again, and from this you can attempt to root again

Thank you for the prompt response.

I can get into download mode, I feel it may be best to do the latter and then try and root it again, I am worried that I may not have followed the first step in my haste, i.e. On your phone, go to... Settings > Applications > Developement > USB debugging and check the box.

So I would want to start the whole process again knowing what I now do.

from SamMobile, where am I looking for the package I need? A direct link would be ideal as I am struggling to navigate the site.

No that's correct. I was just wondering if you were perhaps on ICS and rooted with a GB kernel.

Where exactly did you download the rooted KI4 kernel from?

All seems ok to me.
Do you definitely have a GT-I9100, and not one of the variants (eg. GT-I9100G etc)

If you definitely have a GT-I9100, then I would try:
1. Download the file again and re-flash (in case your download was corrupt)
2. If still fails, try the XXKI4 kernel.
3. If still failing, try another kernel version (eg. KI8)
4. If still failing then I think the only way would be to flash the entire firmware again.

Thank you for this, I shall check when I get back from work later to ensure it is not a variant then will give it another go.

Am I safe to assume that the fact I did not check the USB Debugging box would not have caused this problem?

If I do have a GT-I9100G, what root kernel should I be using for the task?

I'm not a technophobe but I am someone who needs a bit of hand holding with these things. I appreciate the kind attention you've given this matter greatly.

If you read the very first line of ironass' guide you would have seen:

This guide is for rooting the Samsung Galaxy S2, GT-i9100, GT-i9100M, GT-i9100T & GT-i9100P only and no other variant.***

Did you follow the instructions of the next line which stated:

(*** The Dummies Guide can also be used to root the, "GT-i9100G", on Gingerbread, (only), providing you use the root kernels mentioned in post #2, here)

I subsequently have, but I am still not sure on the precise model of the phone and will not be until my return from work so I am yet to find out whether I have dropped a major boob.

In the post#2 as linked how do I know which of the linked root kernels is required?

It could also be worth trying one of the other ki4 kernels. There are 3 in the post you linked. It could be possible that you were on 2.3.5 and not 2.3.4 so the xeo ki4 would be the kernel to choose.

Thank you for this, I shall have a full look at the situation after work hopefully rectify the problem, thank you all for your assistance.

I think I shall be sticking to the day job in future!!

I am back and it is a straight GT-I9100 model.

I was pretty sure it was, but was doubting myself as the morning went on, I shall try rooting using one of the other KI4 kernels and let you know how I go.

I would like to, gently and with some humour, reply to the following remarks... ;)

I sent a PM to IronAss

Let me please explain my reason for not replying to you personally and as quickly as you may have expected.

As you will note from my details on the left, I am resident in the UK and I note that your post arrived at 11.16pm, last night, my time.

This was your first post and rather than ask your question on the forum, which is 24/7, you felt that your question obviously merited my personal and immediate attention.

This is probably very remiss of me and in future I will endeavour to set my alarm for 3am in the morning in case i miss any future, urgent, personal messages.

but I appreciate that he is likely bombarded with people like me who have failed in the rooting process somewhere

Quite the contrary, most people who use the rooting guide in posts #1 and #2, do not experience any problems whatsoever and those that do, post their questions on the forum so that I, or others, may help them and their questions and subsequent solutions are there for others to benefit from. Rather than entering into Private Messages which only benefit the person concerned and not the forum as a whole.

and as I am currently phoneless as a result I felt it best to post my problem in here with a hope that someone has experienced it before and can point me in the right direction.

This, I think, would have been your best, and first, course of action as you have received a prompter reply.

I trust that the above explains my shortcomings in this matter.

Right, I tried the XEO KI4 and that hasn't done the trick unfortunately.

In line with Hawker's earlier post I tried the KI8 also, no luck.

How do I now flash the entire firmware again, I've been on SamMobile and can't see what I am looking for.

Thank you for the response, as sarcastic as it was.

I was honestly not meaning for mentioning the pm to come across in any negative manner, I was stating that you were my first port of call but that I fully understood that you may well be busy and I had no clues as to your locality.

In all honesty I was in a state of panic last night which prompted the pm as opposed to the logical thinking of raising the point by way of a post, which is what I did first thing this morning once I had taken the time to evaluate the situation further.

As I say, did not mean to cause offence and I hope that you can drop the sarcastic tone in any future posts and I would not wish for us to get off on the wrong foot here, I was a man without his phone in panic mode.

I now note that you are from the Cotswolds...something I did not notice last night in my panic stricken state.

All I can do is apologise if any offence was taken, you can probably tell that I am not particularly technically au fait, me coming here and asking for advice is akin to someone entering my offices asking for legal advice (only minus the fees of course ;)).

I appreciate all assistance given thus far from all contributors and yourself for the original post that brought me here and any future advice as to how I may resolve this problem.

I'm guessing you missed my opening remark...

I would like to, gently and with some humour, reply to the following remarks... ;)

Right, down to business... Could you post your original, full, stock kernel details prior to your attempted rooting.

Could you also post the, "Version", details as mentioned at the beginning of post #2.

Correct me If I am wrong, but you have a GT-i9100 model phone and you have tried flashing all of the kernels mentioned in Shotgun84's post with no success?

I got the remark, just didn't appreciate the attempt at humour :p

In all honesty I can not remember the precise details, I hadn't noted them as I didn't foresee the problems, all I remember was before the hyphen it was KI4. I presume the details are not noted anywhere else (i.e. handbook etc) as I am unable to get back onto the phone as yet.

I also failed to note the version...I know what you are thinking and I deserve all the looks you'll be giving me right now.

I have tried 1, 2 and 3 of:

If you definitely have a GT-I9100, then I would try:
1. Download the file again and re-flash (in case your download was corrupt)
2. If still fails, try the XXKI4 kernel.
3. If still failing, try another kernel version (eg. KI8)
4. If still failing then I think the only way would be to flash the entire firmware again.

Number 2 of which was what was suggested in Shotgun 84's post that has been tried to no avail.

I know the information is sketchy at best and I appreciate any suggestions you may be able to give.

Hindsight is a great thing I guess, I really wish I could go back and make a note of everything now.

So, none of the 3, CF-Root, KI4 kernels mentioned in this post or the KI8, has worked for you?

Enter *#1234# on your dial pad and post the 4 lines of information given in, "Version". This will at least supply enough information to allow you to flash your original firmware back on, with stock kernel, using Odin.

No none of them worked unfortunately.

I cannot get the phone to get past the start up screen so no dial pad, is there any other way to go about getting the version?
