S3 as MP3 Player

HM08

Newbie
Has anyone made their S3 their primary MP3 player. My Zune died last week but I HATE iTunes so I'm not to keen about jumping on the iPod wagon. However, I only have the 16GB S3 so I would have to put my music on an SD card. Was just curious as to what people thought.

mine is my primary mp3 player. i use it when working outside, i use it for my music in my car its the only thing i use for my music, and i have a 32gb card it in just for music. and i will mention it was my mp3 player, until i ordered an older evo4g yesterday, which will be my new one to save on battery for long trips and such. but i have listened to music for 4+ hours a day + normal use and still made it through without charging

Heck yeah!
I dumped my dedicated mp3 player a long time ago, with all the music players on the market plus the tons of options i much prefer my phone to my old pod. I use my phone with my car stereo too, sd cards are cheap and music dosent take up much memory.

So to expand on this some more -- I lost my iPod last week on Friday and I've been wanting to use my S3 as my new player for my commute to work and such -- but the music player it came with and a couple I've tried all kind... suck. I'm so used to the iPod and it was brilliant at what it did.

I'm still on my iPod high, so pardon my fanboi attitude towards it but the layout and interface were just... perfect? It made sense. So in your guys' opinion -- what's the best music player?

The one feature I'm searching for most of all is playing all songs from an artist. All of the ones I've had only allow you play one album from the artist. That would be fine but I only add 2-3 songs per album so I end up listening to the same 3 songs over and over (lame) until I change it.

Would also be nice to have a random / repeat button available on the UI. Currently using Rocket Player free.

I use my SGS3 as my primary music player. It connects with my BlueTooth audio player in my car automatically when I turn my car on. I don't have to do anything. Just start the car and the music plays.

I have a Nokia N97 as my secondary music player. It has an FM transmitter, so I can play my music over my portable stereo or tuner at home. That way I don't have to buy a set of BlueTooth speakers or anything like that. Besides, I don't want a phone call interrupting my music at home.

My stock player does this as well as pretty much every music player I've tried. Maybe I'm missing what you're asking for.

In the stock player I click on an artist and it lists the albums and the tracks inside them. If I play the first album and then skip it will play songs from the next album, and so on.

Fusion Player (free) does this too, just differently. When you click on an artist it will list all of the songs by that artist but not the albums.

I mainly use Player Pro, if I browse to an artist and long press on the artist name and hit play or enqueue, it will play all of the songs by that artist.

All of the players are a little different, that's the point. But if you want a music player that does exactly what the iPod does then just get an iPod.

I can't see any reason to spend good money on a separate MP3 player - use the money to buy decent earphones, and maybe a different music player app if you're unhappy with the stock one.

I use Poweramp, chiefly because it supports gapless play, so that albums where there is no gap between tracks now play as they should, without the player introducing a few seconds of silence as tracks change. I don't think the user-interface is anywhere near perfect but, as a player, it can do pretty much anything you'd ever want.

For earphones, I use "Phonak Audeo PFE Perfect Bass 022 Earphones with Microphone" which sound superb and reveal so much more of the music than any other earphones I've tried - which is quite a few, up to about

Player Pro allows play all from artist menu, tried it out to make sure first. will also shuffle all, and has a equalizer. Offer great album art selections, it will find it for you or let you choose from the web. It will also find lyrics if you want. (to get to both of these you just press the album art showing while playing and it will give you tons of options) Player Pro also has skins to choose from. I went through a good 5-10 players before finally finding this one. I love it.

Jet Audio Plus:
AGC (automatic gain control) to avoid volume fluctuations between tracks
Crossfading, Gap-less playback

I use Google Play Music. Supposedly poweramp is the most powerful on Android. Doubletwist is supposed to be the most like itunes.

I figured it out - I decided to check to see if I missed something you said and as it turns out when I got the phone and loaded music on the "Music Player" wasn't updated. Now I feel silly lol.

Thanks for the replies everyone, and for giggles I'll check out the other players you mentioned.

Bump for another question about Music Player.

I've been using it more lately, and have found a particularly confusing.... I don't even know what to call it lol.

Here's a break down of what happens though.

Start music player, find artist I want to listen to and play all their songs.
Get to work and press menu button and exit app.

Go to use Music Player at lunch and attempt to search for a new artist to play. Won't go back to the menu!!! I'm stuck in a loop between the "Now Playing" screen and the artists albums / songs screen. I can't find a way to get to the main menu where I can select All / Playlist / Albums / etc etc. There has to be a way, because I'm not going to want to listen to Killswitch Engage on my music player forever.

Not sure about that one, the return button at the bottom right usually takes me back to the main menu. You could try clearing out the cache, restarting the phone, or just use a different music player. I don't like the stock player at all, it's so slow.

In the now playing screen right below the album cover picture and above the progress bar there are 3 icons. The one on the left is the shuffle. The one in the centre is the option to toggle between play all songs in sequence, loop all songs or repeat the one. The one on the right is the one you want. Select this. It will take you to a screen where at the top, it allow you to select different albums, artists, etc. There are more items that can be shown so you can swipe that top bar left or right to see more options.

Thanks guys, after checking out some recommended players I think I'm going to rock and roll with Pro Player, that shit is tight. For real lol!

I have had it for a year now and I still find things that I didn't know it could do! Tryout some of the skins.
