Help S3 - Cannot display exchange account

mben0811

Lurker
I accidentally deleted my exchange account, but when I try to add it again the message that a "duplicated account is already in use" pops up. Is there a way to display my exchange account if I didn't actually deleted as I thought I did?

does an exchange account show up if you go to the main Settings menu & scroll down to accounts (on Jelly Bean, cant remember if it was set up like this on ICS)?

If it doesn't show up & there is still an issue, try clearing data for the stock email app & for the "exchange Services" app (Settings/Application manager/All apps), reboot & try setting up the account again. You might get duplicate calendar entries after this (if you have exchange syncing your calendar to Outlook)- go to the "Calendar Storage" app & clear data- the calendar will resync which will take a little while.

Thanks for the help! Unfortunately clearing the data and rebooting did not work. I tried to add another account (because it does not show up as one of my accounts) and it came up with the same message of duplicate account.

I guess I've never tried deleting an exchange account- just had to set one up a lot with each new ROM/phone.

Exchange accounts usually require being a device administrator- go to Settings/Security/Device Administrators & see if there is one listed for either Exchange or Email. If so, remove it & then try setting up the account again.

Just a thought...

Good thinking! There was one listed for the exchange account and I got it removed. Again tried setting up and same duplicate message. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Well, I think I'm out of ideas! I wonder if something could be going on on the server side- might try talking to one of your IT folks & see if they can check on their end.

Aside from that, a factory reset would probably take care of the issue, but that's kind of the "nuclear option". Make sure you have all photos, music & personal data backed up before you go this route...

Thanks for all the help! Since I just purchased the phone a couple of weeks ago I think I should be good with a factory reset. I will continue to see if there are any more replies to help out though before that option is used. :-)

Sounds good. :)
