Help S3 doesn't charge correctly anymore?

My girlfriend one day was charging her s3 and her samsung tab3 (10.1) on an extension chord a few days ago. Thats usually how we did it, and never had any problems, till one day she goes to unplug and the chargers are overwhelmingly hot. To the point where it melted the plastic off one of the blocks. I quickly unplugged everything. The next day we used different chargers, but noticed that the tablet nor the phone charge correctly anymore. She has to keep her phone on the charger all night, even then, like this morning, it was at 80% and she goes to bed around 9pm, wakes up at about 430, 5. We bought a new battery for the phone to see if that would help, but it hasn't. And it also dies still fairly quickly i believe. Also i woke up today and charged the tablet and it was at 30% when i checked 4-5 hours later. So we dont know what the problem is or what we can do about it. any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Without measuring things in the phone and tablet it's all guesswork, but there could have been a transient in the power line that blew the chargers and the resulting surges might have damaged the phone and chargers. Not something you can fix yourself. If anything, the extension cord took up some of the shock and kept it from being worse.
