Help S3 Keeps INCREASING volume by itself

Hello,

My S3 keeps volume/ringtone keeps increasing on its own. When left on a table by itself, or in my hand when I'm on my phone, it will adjust the volume/ringtone all the way to max, and then keep trying to reach max volume. When it does this, it will keep beeping, like it normally does when you change volume. But it will keep trying to increase volume.

When I disable the sound, IE put it on mute, it will automically turn the volume up all the way. Weird right?

I have tried a battery reset. I have also tried to see if the volume button was stuck, but that wasn't the case. Could it be a hardware/software issue? I don't want to download any apps, and I dont' want to do a hard reset. I tried searching the internet, but there doesn't seem to be any solid answers for this fix. Any advice and/or recommendations other than downloading an app or doing a hard reset will be much appreciated!

It sounds like the contact on the volume button is dodgy. You could try taking the back of the phone off, remove battery and cards and take off the back case to see if any dust or debris is there. Otherwise have you had it near steam or moisture? Taking it into the bathroom while you have a shower... inside a pocket playing sports... all build up moisture. It doesn't seem like a software issue, it's definitely hardware, my guess is something is stuck in/on/around the button.
