I have 'No SIM' failure and replaced Tray Set. Problem still exists. Where to now? New motherboard?

Does the SIM work in another phone? I've had SIMs die on me before, so it's worth testing the SIM rather than the phone (to me "SIM tray" means the little SIM holder, so you've not said whether you've tried the card itself).

Otherwise, it depends on where you are. If you are in the EU then phones have a 2 year warranty, so an S3 will still be under warranty if it needs repaid.

Thanks for quick response. Phone is 2ndhand, so unsure of its history. Thought replacing tray part would be the answer.
Used a current Vodafone SIM card from an active 2nd phone and won't connect in S3. Replaced with new tray and still reads 'NO SIM'
Have placed a new prepay SIM in and fails to read that too.
Can only think that the MB connection is faulty. Tried putting pressure onto back of tray for better contact without success.
No Google solution appears for such a fault when tray is replaced. I'm in NZ...out of warranty period.

You are sure that the phone is unlocked, or locked to Vodafone? Though "No SIM" isn't what I'd expect for a locked phone, so it's probably not that (but I've not bought a locked phone since before Android existed, so I can't be certain).

Thanks....Couldn't figure a cause. Took it into a local repair shop for analysis. Third SIM card didn't work. Will post again.

Service shop says part of the CPU has failed....possible short from replacing SIM tray(?). Looks like a new MB - quoted me NZ$450! I think I'll find a 'broken screen' phone on ebay/Trademe and swop.
