S3 niggles

Newbie
I have a new S3 (lovely phone) however I have a couple of niggles.

1) When I get a txt message the whole screen lights up and the first line of the txt message is displayed in the notification area... is there a way to NOT have the screen light up and just have the led flash? I work in an office and it's not very private. TBH my Desire did the same and I have to wonder and the mentality of allowing you to put a pin and lock on your phone then flash up all you messages for anyone to read!

2) Gmail still doesn't have the option to NOT use conversation view mode  so I use the mail program - however i can seem to change the font size when reading messages.

3) Can you change the system sounds e.g the water drop/bubble sound when touching the lock screen and the annoying piano key sound when you make and hangup a call (makes the phone sound like a fisher price toy when making a call)

thanks

1. My screen doesn't light up when I get a message, it just plays the notification tone and flashes the led. I have a pass code lock set; that's the only thing I can think of that would have an effect on this behaviour.

3. You can but only by rooting the phone and replacing the sound files using an app like root explorer. Those files are read only and you can only change the permissions by rooting.

Thanks for the info - I have tried all sorts of different variation and the screen still shows and then goes off :(

thanks

If you go into settings and sound there is the option to turn off the water unlock sound. I have turned it off and it's much better.

Are you using the built in sms app or something like handcent?

Edit: never mind mine does it too, I must've been thinking of emails.

It doesn't scroll the text in the notification bar but does turn the screen on.

With gosms having the screen light up when you receive a text is an option, as is unlocking the screen.
