S3 query

Hi all. Im new to this forum and also Adroid having stepped away from ios. I am the proud owner of a new S3. But I have a problem with the advanced task killer I downloaded. Every time I open the task killer to see whats open and kill it, I find more apps open which I havent even looked at for a while. If I kill the lot and return to home page, then re open task killer there will be apps listed again! Im guessing these apps are eating into the memory and I dont like that! Is this a set up issue on my behalf or just that all apps use gps or other systems all th time even in the background, and this is why task killer sees them as open and running?
Hope that makes sense, Thanks in advance,
welshboy243.

Welcome to AF welshboy! I moved this to the Samsung Galaxy S3 forum.

Regarding task killers, to be honest, with an ICS phone, you really DON'T need a task killer anymore. It is just doing more harm then good at this point. With 2GB of memory, you aren't going to run out of it. And the OS will shut down apps on its own in the rare case you do.

Hope this helps, thanks for joining up!

There's a pretty good write up about it here: http://androidforums.com/android-applications/335110-why-you-dont-need-task-killer.html

But, in a nut shell, some apps are considered "system" apps and will be opened regardless. Using ATK to kill them just forces the system to re open them, which causes ATK to kill them again, which causes the system to re open it. This loop continues and will drain your battery.

Plus, every Android build since Froyo has been able to effectively manage the apps running in the background. I would only recommend worrying about the background apps if you're having issues. iOS had background apps running, too, and you never fretted about them. Android just allows you to see what's in the background :)
