Help S3 Unexplained Random Vibration

My Verizon S3 vibrates randomly for no apparent reason. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when or why it happens. Sometimes it happens when I'm using my phone, other times it's when the phone is just sitting there idle. There are no notifications when this happens.

I upgraded to the S3 two months ago. This problem started happening immediately. I went thru troubleshooting with Verizon and I did a factory reset and deleted all my data and apps with vibrate permissions. But the random vibration kept happening. Verizon replaced my phone and I've been using the new one for about a week and I realized that the vibrations are still happening!

This is driving me crazy, but I can't think of anything else that could be causing it. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Sounds like an app is crashing, possibly Verizon bloat ware. Usually you'll see this app has force closed or something along them lines but not always. You could always run a logcat and look for the error right after it happens.

Thanks! That's certainly an interesting idea. I haven't seen any message about an app crashing, but it could be a silent error.

Do you have any suggestions about how to get the logcat? My phone is running Jelly Bean and third party apps are not allowed to read the system log.

Alternatively, is there any way I can stop the phone from vibrating when an app crashes?

This is a stab in the dark lol but try turning auto-haptic off in sound settings and see if that helps. If it does you can go into the auto-haptic settings and try unchecking it for any apps that could be causing it

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, but unfortunately it didn't work. My phone just vibrated again :(

My phone just started doing this as well like a week ago.

At first my phone would vibrate in my pocket, and I'd check it; and nothing. No notifications or anything of any kind. I'd put it away, and a couple of minutes later, I would feel my leg vibrate again... I started thinking I was going crazy because I swear I just felt my leg buzz!

The weird part was it would only happen when it was in my pocket. My nightstand, it would behave just fine; put it in my pocket, and it's act up.

I've read all the threads, and tried all the things, and it still randomly vibrates. This phone is pretty old now, so maybe it's just getting senile in its golden years. I'd hate to think the phone is jealous that I'm giving more attention to our new puppy that to my phone lately. Maybe it's sick of taking cute puppy pics. Maybe it just needs me to take it on a vacation somewhere warm and away from the snow.

Would laying on a tropical beach for a week make my phone stop vibrating? I'm REALLY tempted to try it out and see.
