Help S4 call issue

[Android Question]

I have a Samsung S4 that all of a sudden would not allow phone calls. To be more specific, the speaker works as does the mic but when I make or receive a phone call (the call connects) but I cannot hear them and they cannot hear me. No warranty so Samsung won't help and the cost to send it to be looked at is crazy. Any suggestions?

Could be sim card going bad but take a look at this thread for a few things that have worked for others.
