Help S4 Camera Foucus Issue

The camera on my insurance-replacement S4 really doesn't like to focus. Has anyone had this problem? It won't auto-focus worth a darn and even when I touch a high-contrast area on the image like the edge of a TV against a white background it will not focus. Very irritating as the camera's performance was one of the main things I thought this phone was best at.

Contact the insurance company and tell them that the replacement they sent you is defective. The camera won't macro-focus with the stock app but anything a foot away or more should be no problem.

We bought 3 SGS4's a year or so ago (all new from VZW) and mine also has an issue focusing. The other two do just fine. I've owned numerous mobile phones and was even a Nokia repair tech some number of years ago so I'm not new to mobile phones or camera phones. There's is something definitely physically wrong with me SGS4's physical camera aperture. I did a little searching and it seems like there is a small percentage of these that also share the same issue. No combination of settings or software seems to make it any better either. I guess at some point I'll look into getting a warranty but I hate having to get a new phone so I've been putting it off. Other than that it works fine and I have no issues & don't want to deal with everything that comes with a new phone. So I guess my post isn't of much help other than to tell you you're not crazy and you're not alone.

Have you tried cleaning the camera lens using a fine lintlesss rag or tissue?
I had that problem a while back and used some automotive spray detail wax on a clean microfiber cloth to clean the lens and it all went away. MAJOR difference!

Couldn't hurt to try...

This is good advice. You wouldn't believe how a little oil or scratched lens has on the camera focus.

There is also a plastic cover with hole in they middle over the camera. Some folks recommend removing this. (Although It remains on my camera and doesn't cause any problem)

I called AT & T last night about it. They have an app you can install that allows them to see your screen (pretty cool!). So I got on there and showed the guy the problem and he agreed it was bad and they are sending me a another warrantee replacement phone. I gotta say, their support in this issue was OUTSTANDING! Go AT & T!!!

I can't speak for the OP but when I noticed that my camera was having a focus problem I removed that and it made no difference.

Cleaning the lens wasn't the issue. I removed that plastic cover on day one. THis was definitely some kind of internal error. New phone will be here Friday.
