S4 how to factory reset rooted phone from overseas

Ok heres my dilemma...

I have an S4 on the T-mobile network from the US. It was sent to me in New Zealand, where I am currently using it with a local SIM. When i received it it was already rooted.

Now I'm having some issues with software freezing on the phone and have been recommended that i need to do 'Factory Reset", which is fine except i dont know if doing so will change my ability to use the phone with my local SIM from New Zealand because of the whole rooting thingy?!?!?

Likewise with updates, can i update it and still us it in New Zealand
Can anyone please advise what the best course of action or actions to avoid would be...
