Help S5 fingerprint and Exchange

Seeing if anyone else may be experiencing this problem...one reason I bought the S5 was the fingerprint sensor. I have it working correctly with 3 different fingers.

Having said that, I set up my Exchange account for corporate email and now the screen must lock with a PIN number. I was hoping to be able to use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the device. Anyone have theirs working with Exchange and would share how they did it?

It worked when I had my iPhone 5s correctly but something is not set right on the Samsung device.

I think you are SOL. My company does the same thing. I have the Galaxy Nexus and I can't do the face recognition unlock. Some companies block certain features on the phone when you sink your exchange account. My phone worked fine and as soon as I added my work e-mail account...it made it so I could only use the pin unlock or a pattern. Again...you aren't doing anything wrong. It's just a security feature that your company requires a pin.
 
Thanks for the replies but let me reiterate one thing....my iphone 5s fingerprint scanner would work as unlock but my new Samsung s5 will not. No settings have been changed on my Exchange server. I am also the IT person.

Maybe the Samsung S5 will not let you bypass the PIN security and the iphone 5s will??

Also here is a screen shot of what I see when in fingerprint settings on phone. As you can see the fingerprint unlock is not an option for me. Is it for you?

Well that sounds annoying. My company uses Exchange, but an old version (2003), so either the IT guys here haven't locked down the security or that version of Exchange doesn't even offer it. With my company's email account, I am able to use any of the lock features.
 
I am also the exchange admin at my office. iPhone 5s work for multiple users but I just got my S5 (No real IT person uses an iPhone). It will not let me use the fingerprint. Also not in the past Note 2 pattern unlock would not work.

Echange 2007 I can go over the setting but they are pretty straight forward. Require encryption, require password, etc...
 
I would have thought that it would be straight forward, from an IT perspective (I'm also in the field). But maybe it's just due to the version of Exchange? Again, we're on Exchange 2003, and I'm using the pattern to unlock. None of the locking features are disabled on mine. (shrugs)
 
Basically had to disable Exchange client access policy to not require a password. That did the trick. Funny how the iPhone 5s will use fingerprint as recognition when this is on but GS5 will not.
 
Exchange admin here. With the iPhone the fingerprint scanner just acts as a substitute for the PIN. With the S5 it is an alternate form of authentication. Every version of Exchange from 2003 on has had only 2 options for security. You can either require a PIN or a password. If as an admin you want to protect company data you have only these options. Hopefully Microsoft will add in the option to allow other forms, or Samsung sets up the fingerprint scanner to substitute for the PIN like the iPhone.

Hey Guys

I faced the same issue and have got a solution.

It's a two step solution: One for Email (which works without the PIN and with the Finger Print) and another for Calendar (which syncs my corporate calendar).

I'm having this problem too and its very annoying since the PIN lock is smaller and you have to press OK

Are there any other solutions besides the above 'blog' that i cant seem to access?

Not really an update most people can use, but I got it working on mine. Microsoft has not released anything to allow it, but our mobile device manager vendor, Mobile Iron did. It is not fully supported by them yet, but I am able to choose fingerprint for my lock screen now. The Mobile Iron app still puts up a notification that I need to set a PIN, but it does not block access to Exchange.

Anyway not too useful to most people as unless your company is using Mobile Iron and has updated to the 7.x version.
 
ive read thru all of the replies and I wanted to add this as well.


Android will automatically disable the ability to use biometric or pattern authentication when any of the following conditions apply:

- Native email client is configured to use an ActiveSync profile
- Any non-native certificates are installed (example: client certs, domain certs, user certs, root CA certs for a domain)
- Device or external media encryption is enabled
- Any program is storing credentials in the system Credential Storage cache

I was able to confirm this by manually enabling these features or installing applicable certificates on an Samsung Galaxy S5 which was not enrolled in a XenMobile environment. Unfortunately, enabling biometric recognition in XenMobile (or any MDM system) cannot override the authentication policy that Android has applied to itself as the more secure policy will always take precedence.

guess its time to start being creative with the passwords.
 
I got the cloud magic email to work perfectly, but that other mentioned calendar touchdownHD sync isn't free, nor does Google calendar sync without logging into the exchange security process

Anyone have a free calendar sync that works?
