There was an update to the Samsung Link Platform recently which seems to be using alot of CPU, which is where you would feel the increase in heat and it also causes a big battery drain. Might be worth checking if you are running it or not in Application manager and either uninstall it if you dont need it (used for streaming content from phone to Samsung devices) or uninstall the update, or stop it from running.
I'm having the same problem with my s5; I bought it like 3 weeks ago and the battery was great. Now the phone gets very hot when I turn the mobile data or WiFi on, and the battery doesn't even last a day. I checked my application manager and nothing looks out of place.
