Hi,

Sorry to be one of those people but I'm struggling to decide which phone to buy. My Samsung galaxy S5 was stolen and I'm stuck in a contract so I need to buy a new SIM free phone. My budget is basically £270ish. I'm looking at getting a smaller handset than the S5 as I was getting sick of the large S5, and can't decide between the s5 mini or the Sony Z1 compact. The Z1 compact looks like the better phone, I'm not fussed about the samsungs gimmicks (fingerprint, heartbeat sensor etc), and I want a camera which will rival the S5s. However, I'm hesitant to go for the Z1 as its older, and I've seen a couple of reviews questioning reliability after a few months and claiming sony are poor at replacing faulty handsets etc.

So, which phone should I buy?!

Thanks

I would go for Z1 Compact. Snapdragon 800 is still very capable and the phone has a lot less bloatware so I think it'll stay less laggy along the run. I cannot comment on the repair since in Finland it sucks with almost every brand because there's one company taking care of every repair. I work with mobile devices and our customer and staff have had problems with S5 minis. I don't know if it's been a faulty stock or what, but there are a lot of phones that we have had to at least factory reset if not send to a repair shop. So I would go for Sony. And I'm not a Samsung hater by any means. At the moment I have a Note Edge. I would also consider the fact that if you like Touchwiz then you'll be able to get the same experience with s5 mini as you did with s5. But overall I would choose Z1 Compact because I think you'll get better bang for the buck with that one.
