S5 or S4 Active?

Since I happen to be in the market to upgrade from my S2 Skyrocket, and I am an avid outdoorsman who spends time fishing/boating, hunting in the rain and snow, sweating, etc. I am looking to find a durable phone that I don't have to buy a big bulky protection case for.

I see the S5 is being advertised as water-resistant, and many online videos have been made of the phone being submerged for long periods of time and working. Also, I have seen it dropped from 10ft up onto pavement and surviving.

I also see that the S4 Active is advertised as water-resistant.

Which is more suited for my outdoor lifestyle?

Both of them are suitable for you if you don't go diving.
S4 active has an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of 57.
And S5 is dust and water resistant according to IP67 standards.
Theoretically, S5 is better than S4 in water-resistance.

The S5 might hold the edge on long life battery performance.

I have my S5 trimmed down to only the apps I need for basic communications, and using the Battery Doctor widget (good for the S4 also) I am on my 2nd day of use since charged at 76% battery left. Also the S5 will allow you to Disable the bloatware that is so generously endowed on all cellphones.

I religiously use the BD widget to turn OFF
DATA, Sync, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth before I put the phone to sleep.

The text messaging and phone functions continue to work just fine. But the battery use is very small that way.

I do not need instant alerts that an email arrived from Hong Kong to sell me something. I can read that next week, thank you. Anyone wants to get in touch with me knows to send a Text Message, I don't have my life hung up on social apps and emails.
