Help s5 running very slow since update

My wife s5 has been running very slow for the last two months which seems to have coincided with the update 5.0.2 or possibly a slightly earlier one, I've tried to back up her phone using Kies but that is now saying best and quickest is by downloading an app.

Any suggestions on what's best to back up using these days?
Should I get rid of Kies off my computer as I cannot back up my s4 mini either?

In the first instance, I would suggest clearing the cache partition on both phones as per #1.3 of the following guides...
