S8+ Fatal Flaws

Jeff Allen

Newbie
The S8+ has two fatal flaws.

1. It is the most fragile phone ever made.

Even with insurance, the deductible is $200. This means you MUST get a case or you WILL break the glass. So, I got a good case that passed most of the drop tests. Glass never cracked with this case for months.

2. I was butt-dialing constantly multiple times a week. This includes calling 911, summoning Uber drivers, playing random YouTube videos (loudly), and sending crazy texts.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/screen-pocket-t3602663

There is a pressure sensitive soft spot on the bottom of the screen designed to facilitate unlocking your phone. It is so sensitive, that putting your phone in your pocket and then sitting down will unlock your phone.

Also, if the phone is in your pocket ... and a phone call comes in ... the screen will unlock because the phone thinks your thigh wants to answer. Once the phone is unlocked ... even if you do not take the call ... all sorts of crazy things can happen.

So, I got the official Samsung Clear View Flip Case. This stopped the butt-dialing for sure but, unfortunately, this case does not pass any drop test costing me $200 ... TWICE ... in cracked screens. I didn't even drop the phone. Maybe the phone bumped into a counter or something while it was in my pocket? Who knows.

Now ... TO THE POINT ... I need to go back to using a drop-tested protective case. Can TASKER help me stop the butt-dials? One forum said that installing MacroDroid solved his problems but I'd rather use TASKER. Here is that solution:

Install MacroDroid (free for just a few macros) and use these settings:

Add macro
Trigger: proximity sensor (near)
Action: screen off
constraint: only when screen locked

If the screen turns on in your pocket, for whatever reason, and the proximity sensor is triggered, the screen turns straight off.

Please, Dear God, don't let this post get sidetracked with people telling me about settings (Pin security, SmartStay, EasyScreen, etc...) on the phone I may have overlooked. I overlooked nothing.

!!! PLEASE COMMENT WITH TASKER-ONLY SOLUTIONS !!!

Point 1) Quite frankly I'm expecting the iPhone X to be the "most fragile phone" ever made.

Point 2) Not a clue, and I've never used Tasker.

True. I saw that while researching the S8+. Why does everyone persist in making a beautiful phone that no one can see? Ah ... to increase the sales of accessories because $1,000 per phone is not enough of a profit margin.

What you are trying to achieve is already built in. Settings>display>keep screen turned off. This setting's purpose is to use the proximity sensor to detect if the phone is in a pocket or bag and turn off the screen.

Or are you saying not working?

The following is what I use on Droid Maxx, Droid Turbo 2, and Moto Z2 Force.

It leaves the screen on if I am on a phone call.

The complete project has added function to enable/disable proximity.

Profile: tlaProx
State: Proximity Sensor
State: Not Call [ Type:Any Number:* ]
Enter: tlaProxEnter
A1: System Lock

(Not root-ed ... no plug-in.)

I am not sure tasker can do that natively. You will probably need the secure settings add on to access . But I haven't paid for the add on's full features so I cant say for certain. Just checked it out once before.

I dont have secure settings on my phone now, but on tasker you need to setup state as proximity sensor, then the task is an input from secure settings to wake device command but set to be inverted.

Currently Tasker System Lock is a little clunky.

I have System Lock set to None. If fingerprint (as example) is used and the screen was turned off with a System Lock touching the fingerprint reader prompts for an unlock code.

If you create a Kid using App Factory that contains System Lock ...

Tasker 5.0+ will not work
Tasker 4.9 will work
