Help S9 plus suddenly not charging - phone dead ?

So what are the chances I have lost everything ? 2 Samsung chargers do nowt. I read about fixes involving removing the cover putting a new charging port in but even if i can charge again after some crazy amount being spent would I have lost everything? If there's been a short somehow I guess so ?

Do you have to enable wireless charging in settings? I thought it was always there, and just comes on when the phone is placed on a Qi compatible wireless charging pad.

Someone else with an S9 maybe able to confirm?
 
I see I have about 12 days left of warranty so just enough to get it fixed for free I guess but hope I've not lost all my photos. I've bought a wireless charger off amazon in case it works but I doubt it
 
cellphone dead can cause by liquid damage or software issues...if liquid enter the charging port then charging wont work..check charging port
 
for me it's a no brainer, run to Wal-Mart or Best Buy and grab a $20 wireless charger. settings are irrelevant. there is a 95% chance that will solve all your problems.
 
A 'dead' phone can be interpreted to mean a lot of different things. It's still not definitive that your dead phone is even tied to the battery, or the charging port, or the charging circuitry. There are countless other factors to take into consideration, some hardware-related, some software related.
Could you provide more details as to why you've stated charging the battery is the source of the problem?

Because it won't charge ! Arriving today is a wireless charger but I have a bad feeling it won't work so hopefully samsung will replace the charging port and or the battery but guess that means all data will be wiped
 
The wireless charger as I suspected does nothing. Anyone tell me if holding down the volume down button and power button for 10 secs as I've seen on YouTube videos wipes anything ?

Depends on what has failed. The storage is non-volatile, so you could leave the phone powered-off for years and the data would still be there. That's not the issue. The question is whether the storage or motherboard is damaged. If it's just the charging port then you are fine. But if a component on the board is damaged the only fix is to replace the motherboard, and as the storage is soldered to the board replacing the board means you lose the data.

And I'm afraid I disagree with one earlier post: software problems can render the phone unable to boot, but if it's completely unresponsive this is a hardware problem. OK, a complete erasure of all system firmware could do that, but that isn't something the user or an app can do. So if that's happened and you've not been trying to modify the system firmware then the cause was a hardware failure anyway (and a failure of the storage device is going to be fatal for your data).

I don't suppose you had anything that does a cloud backup installed, e.g. Google Photos? I think Samsung used to offer such a service but think I read about it being discontinued. If data are important you should always have a backup somewhere (and an SD card doesn't count: they are less reliable than the phone, and will be lost if the phone is lost, stolen or dropped in a lake).

Oh, and one warning about warranty repairs: official service centres often reset the phone and update the software as part of their procedure. So if you go that way (and if it's a serious failure within warranty that would be the obvious thing to do) make sure you discuss this with them, since the photos won't be recoverable after a reset. Hopefully the wireless charger will work, so that you can get things backed-up first.
 
Yes been on to Samsung and as you say they will most likely wipe the data for security reasons so its just not worth it imo with the data lost. This is way more important to me then having it repaired so maybe one day somehow I might find someone who knows what they are really doing to fix the charging port if that's the reason but the wireless charger doesn't work either...so I give up for now...

I've already said, all that does is forces the phone OFF. It's just like holding the power button down with a PC that's crashed..
 
May be worth logging on to your Samsung account (if you have one) and Google Photos just to see whether anything has been synched. They shouldn't do that without confirming with you, but in this case it would be a bonus if they had.

I see a have a back up of 2.86 GB but that must be just the basic android system certainly not photos, I had a good 60gb worth all gone now
 
Crap.

Was there any abnormal behaviour (e.g. shutting down when in use despite a reasonable battery percentage left), or did it just fail to charge one evening and never come back on? Normal wireless charging will be less effective than wired charging, so if it's completely flat maybe it's worth leaving on charge for an extended period.

The later just failed to charge. I can't trust Samsung to fix it without possibly wiping the data. I've left the wireless charger on for hours no go it's all hopeless

Again, what you've described isn't a direct indication this is or isn't actually because of a charging problem. There could be any number of other issues that could be the actual cause.
But if you do send it off to be repaired, a Factory Reset is a software-related measure so it isn't always going to be involved, and that directly correlates to what the actual problem might be.
-- If the problem is because of the battery, replacing it doesn't involve a Reset.
-- If the problem is due to a failed component in the logic board, your data will be lost as they won't remove the internal storage chip from the motherboard, they will replace the old motherboard itself. So it's not a Factory Reset but a matter where your data is lost because the storage media itself is gone.
-- If the problem is due to the charging port, with your model Samsung uses a more modular approach. There's the main logic board (the motherboard) and a secondary logic board (the daughterboard). The USB Type-C port is soldered onto the daughterboard so in this case they don't need to replace the motherboard (which is where the internal storage chip is located). The trouble is that whether the problem requires a reset or not many service centres will do one anyway, regardless of whether that is required to fix the problem. And the OP has spoken to Samsung and they have said that that is "most likely" what they will do.
