Root Safestrap Q?

Hello all! I'm not new to rooting, but haven't tried it on my CDMA RAZR yet and am looking to get back into the fun. Anyway, my question is... Can I stay on the ICS kernel and flash a JB ROM in the slots on Safestrap? Also, do slots only run from the internal memory or can I use the SD card?

Good question

Once rooted on ICS, you must install safestrap to install roms. The safestrap version you would be installing i believe is 3.04 (ICS version) The only Jellybean based roms you can install would be the AOSP, CM10,AOKP, or Dhackers Kill Rom for Droid Razr ICS kernel.

If you try to install those roms for the Droid Razrs on the jellybean kernel or the stock Moto Jellybean upgrade, it will crash or bootloop.

Safestrap relies on internal device memory. So, after you install safestrap. Make sure you clean your stock rom by deleting all the apps you installed. If you dont, you wont have room to install roms or any room for the other roms to install apps. Safestrap does not currently support external memory use for partitioning like sdcards (mainly because we would need high capacity/high class sdcards to support the feature)

Is it possible to use Boot Menu Manager and save roms to the SD then? I used this with my Evo 3D and it worked fine. My only assumption would be that the RAZR's internal memory would be considered the same as external on the Evo, thus preventing me from storing on the external because it isn't being recognized. Is my thinking correct? Did I explain that right?

I read in the Safestrap thread on XDA that the 3.06 version allows ICS users to install current versions. Does that still apply today with 3.11? I just recently rooted and have 3.11 installed on my Razr with stock ICS. I have yet to try installing a ROM or even boot into recovery for fear of bricking my phone. Is it okay to use 3.11 or should I downgrade? Also, how difficult is it to upgrade to Jellybean? Is the only way of upgrading to JB by installing the leak?

I installed the JB leak. I'm having a problem though. I can't get Safestrap to work. I used Titanium Backup to restore the app so I could reinstall the recovery and it keeps force closing. I downloaded the apk again and am getting the same thing. I can't install SS. Any suggestions?

I'm not rooted, but look for Biotic (sp) posts, he develops roms and probably can link you to different versions.

Link? I haven't looked at it but I'll help where I can.

There's a video on YouTube that shows how to do it too. I just can't find the link right now. But this thread mentions Smart Actions and there's another that I can't seem to find that mentions multiple steps using Smart Actions and multiple reboots. If you can offer any insight, that'd be great. But if not, I'll figure it out.

ah...

Sounds like (through link) that the .zip will do all the work (think one-click rather than manual root). The exploit is found through Smart Actions which is why it's important to have it and not have it frozen/deleted/etc.

Did it last night. All is well. Now just trying to decide on a ROM. Any suggestions? Working bluetooth is a must.

Probably a rookie question, how do you know how much space to use for each rom slot? How do I find out how big each rom is?

There are a couple videos on youtube that deal with safestrap, they go into that a little bit, but I just went with 2 gig partitions, in one of the vids it mentions you shouldn't need more than that unless you have a lot of apps.
