Help Same android device as my old but it won't display emoticons

So I just got a new Galaxy S2 as I dropped my last one and cracked it. For some reason it won't display Android emoticons. My old one wouldn't display iPhone emojis, which was fine, I didn't care because I had the android emoji keyboard installed and it worked great. Now this one will not display ANY emoticons. I don't understand why I have the same exact phone (just different carriers) and yet they are different, apparently. I need help so I can at least use the android style emoticons.

You can download handcent sms app. Then open the app and click emoji then it will give you the option to enable them, which will send you back to the play store for downloading the emoji part, then you should be good to go!

What about just a new keyboard ??
I use Swiftkey, and have emoji's on it....and I don't remember having to download some emoji stuff....did Swiftkey come with it?

I'll try but the problem is not the keyboard, it's the fact that my phone will not DISPLAY any emoticons. Like I said before, I downloaded a different keyboard and tried to use the emojis but it just won't display them. It won't display emoticons that are sent to me either.

If you're talking about "Language and Input" there is no option there for emoticons, I've looked multiple times. This phone just sucks so much. I can't even remove the default texting app from the front page, so if I download a new SMS app I can't replace it, like, what the hell is that? I just don't understand how the same exact phone can be so different from another one?

I have my phone setup with gosms pro and I went into my message settings from the main page in my messages and turned off notifications and then only use gosms.
