Help Same Network, Different Phone, Different 3G Reception

Andy Forum

Hello...I'm confused!!! Although my colleague and I are both on the same network he has 3G coverage on his phone whereas I don't. He has an iphone4 and mine is the galaxy s. I spoke to my network provider who remotely did something with my settings which would assure me a 3g signal...it didn't work and I have emailed them again but no reply. Assuming the phone is set-up right is this implying that the iphone has better 3g "capturing" capabilities!!!:confused::confused:

Hello Andy.

There are a few things to check on the SGS to make sure 3G (it's actually referred to as HSDPA or High Speed Data Packet Access and will show up as a capital H next to the signal bar) is active.

Goto Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks and make sure "Use packet data" has a green tick in the box. Then tap Network mode and make sure GSM/WCDMA(auto) is selected. Then tap Access Point Names and ensure your operators internet settings are correct. If there isn't any APN stored you will need to contact your network provider and they will send you the settings as a text, or you can check on their website where they will normally publish the settings for you to enter manually.

Cheers.

Hi Ray...thanks for the reply! I have a "H" on my phone but every now and again it flicks to "3G" (for a millisecond or so). My work colleague (with the same provider) gets 3G continuously? I have the packet data ticked and the GSM/WCDMA(auto) is selected. As for the APN they seem to be correct but I'll check the website (although as mentioned the operator did send me a text message before but to no avail):(:(:(

it will show the H when data is flowing and the connection is HSDPA and 3G when there is no traffic. Both mean the same thing in essence, H/3G on the SGS = 3G on the iPhone.
