Help Samsung Captivate AT&T (SGH i897) 2.1 Eclair

Hi! All

This is Aswath from India.

I am new to using smart phones needed some advice on my samsung captivate AT&T (SGH i897) 2.1 Eclair.

1. It doesnt show i896 or rogers, it shows at&t world mobile
2. Takes time to boot.
3. The photos i took later, dissappers after switching it on.
4. What is the best android software available for me

These started happening after i received it getting the country code unlocked.

The phone was gifted by my Brother from Canada. It was Samsung galaxy s captivate i896.
So for unlocking, it was given to the mobile service nearby, since the samsung service centre said that they cannot do it.

3.x.x Honeycomb
2.3.x Gingerbread
2.2 Froyo
2.0, 2.1 Eclair

Are all these compatible with this phone and which is the best?
Where to get it and how to install it.

Froyo and Ginger Bread have already been released for the Captivate. Honeycomb is specifically for tablets. There is no official Ice Cream Sandwich for Captivate (and probably won't be), but if you're willing to root and install custom ROMs, you can get ICS. You should be able to upgrade to Ginger Bread using Kies. Check out the Captivate subforum.
