Help Samsung Captivate, Data network mode won't turn on

Samsung Captivate (ATT) UNLOCKED phone. Froyo UCKB1 2.6.32.9.

The data network mode/3G won't turn on, even though it says it is activated on the phone Options menu, tried de-activating, re-activating, and the 3G icon never comes on, tried flight mode/on/off, power off, removed battery, removed Sim card, turned wireless on/off, it just won't come back on.

I had a different Sim card while traveling in Europe and 3G worked great. But since I came back to the USA and put my ATT Sim card back in, I cannot get data network working. Wireless works fine.

Any ideas?
 
I've been having the same exact problem ! I've tried everything !! It wasn't like this two days ago, either. It was working fine but now It's a wreck. :(
 
An connection setting sometimes gets turned off. Try going to "Wireless and network". Then Mobile Network and make sure that the "Use packet data" is checked. It worked for me when I had this problem.
 
this is apparently an occasional problem with the captivate


common solutions are try cleaning your sim card

Reset to factory defaults

or what worked for me was updating my OS
