Samsung confirms gingerbread for all galaxy s models

I read the original tweet. I think it was over on engadget.

And Samsung DID NOT confirm gingerbread for Galaxy S phone.

The tweet read something like " H/W specs similiar from F to Gingerbread"

The article is originally it was over on techradar.
Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.3 Gingerbread update confirmed | News | TechRadar UK

So it's not confirmed. Samsung, like the LG tweet a couple of days ago, will have to "review" their upgrade at a later date.

And the tweet was from Samsung India.

Samsung is already 4 months behind HTC and Motorola in updating their flagship phone to 2.2.

IF (and that's a big IF) they ever upgrade officially to 2.3, most users will be ready for another phone. The majority of smartphone users upgrade ever 12-18 months.

i believe that we may see gingerbread on our beloved galaxy s phones.... sometime after the next version of android is released.

I was thinking we have a better shot at the lions winning the super bowl then getting gingerbread, although either would be nice!!!

Ill believe it when i see it. I really wish they would sakip 2.2 for us and just give us 2.3. Just because they say we will get it, it didnt say which month. I dont look to have it anytime soon but id love to have it soon.

There is NO reason if the Nexus S with TMobile can come with it installed that we should not get it soon after.

I agree. I will believe it when I see it.

The 2.2 waiting game is absolutely ridiculous and people think Samsung/Tmobile will release 2.3 on the Vibrant on in a timely manner? Forget about it.

Samsung/Tmobile have absolutely zero excuses for even the 2.2 delay. Google released the source code for 2.2 at the beginning of May 2010. My friends started receiving their 2.2 on their Nexus One around May 20th.

The Vibrant wasn't released until July 15th (give or take a day or two). Samsung/Tmobile had almost a 2 month lead time to put 2.2 (or start planning for 2.2 on the Vibrant). I know the European Galaxy S phones were released near the end of June.

For a "high end" smartphone and their flagship model, Samsung really doesn't care about the post-sales experience. They need to realize smartphones are becoming like mini computers and the public expects post-sales software updates/new features. They can't be like they are selling dumphones where there is absolutely zero post-sales software updates.

I am a phone junkie, own multiple phones, including symbian, blackberries, iphones, and Android. People can bash Apple all they want, but there is a big reason Apple has extremely high customer satisfaction ratings: They provide a very good post-sales experience for their customers, especially the iphone these days, since it's their cash cow.

I have no doubt Samsung Vibrant hardware can support Gingerbread. But I have major doubt about Samsung wanting give the official software support in a timely manner. They got their money already. Their bean counters in accounting figure it's a waste of time to provide software update when the cash is in the bank. Little do they realize, many previous Samsung Customers won't rebuy their product again.

That being said, since the Nexus S is an "official" Google phone, Google/Samsung will update that phone in a timely manner. Google and Samsung probably already have a pre arrangement to provide updates in a quick manner like the Nexus One.

Without a doubt, the Vibrant is the most disappointing phone I have had. It was working atleast ok till TMo decided to update the GPS which has majorly screwed up my phone with regards to battery life. I've lost patience with Samsung and TMo to unf**k the disaster which is that OTA update. No Froyo, No Gingerbread no nothing from Samsung. Meanwhile Samsung Galaxy S users are left with running Android Twinkie and be content.

if I would have known that samsung would do this, i would have never purchased the vibrant. :( I love the phone but this update or no update thing is driving me crazy.

really.........its b.s. they say were getting updates and now several phones have passed right by....i will not buy another samsung phone, the vibrant is awesome however they fail to keep up with their end of it.:mad::mad::mad::mad:
we shouldnt have to do jack s##t to update our 500 dollar phones!!!!
Same here.

Why has Samsung remained completely non commital and inactive on Samsung Galaxy S phones is beyond me. I'd be pissed if they make a fool out of all Galaxy S users and make Gingerbread a Nexus S only privilege. That would make Galaxy S the ugly step sister to Nexus S. Both have almost identical hardware and if Nexus S can run Gingerbread, so can the Galaxy S. Good thing about Nexus S is it is being backed by Google so all the latest and greatest in Android will come to it first.

If Samsung does not deliver on the Galaxy S, they are making the biggest mistake of their life. The phone as it is now, is a disappointing piece of hardware for the money.

Yeah I echo the same sentiments as rayn1328. We don't have to do jack to update our $500 smartphones on our own because the manufacturer has sold enough of it and moved on to please the customers of its new product, i.e Nexus S.

I don't know why anyone would think we'll get Gingerbread. If Froyo code was released in May and we still haven't gotten it, figure it'll take them 6 months to turn around Gingerbread, that's probably past the end of life for the phone.

Also, what percent of the millions of people who have a Galaxy S phone even know what Froyo is. The huge majority of people aren't going to hold no updating against Samsung.

It really is inexcusable at this point though. HTC and Motorola delivered updates to their flagship devices 3-4 months ago. At this point, there's really no sign from Samsung that we'll get an official Froyo anytime soon or even ever.

The whole problem is that every one of this manufactures puts their own garbage on top of Android. For the most part, it's not making the device any better, just different. There are enough apps to replace anything good that the manufactures actually give us, that there's just no point for it. But, in order for them to sell more handsets than the next guy, they load them up with all of this window dressing.

If that would all go away, we'd get the updates months faster.

You got that right. Hopefully they do it for Gingerbread too.

They will, but the devs still need a build of Gingerbread that's intended for the Vibrant before they can do much with it.

Froyo ROM's from I9000 code ported to the Vibrant weren't the greatest things really. Now that there is leaked 2.2 code for the Vibrant specifically the custom ROM's are much better.

Hi Everyone

I know that this may be a bit pre-mature, but I was wondering if Samsung has committed to implementing Gingerbread on the vibrant? If not on the original, will it eventually be available on the vibrant 4G?

Thank in advance
Andy

The I9000 Gingerbread project has grounded to a halt. The same goes for CyanogenMod. I fear that we are reaching the limit of custom rom.

I think that (well, I hope that) one of the great developers such as Master will end up continuing the Gingerbread port for the Vibrant, as he's done so well with Froyo. He's a very talented guy, as is many other developers around, and I'm sure that one of them will at least start tinkering with it. Will it happen that an RC comes out within 6 months? No. Within a year? I think so.

Honeycomb is completely out of the question :)
