Help Samsung Galaxy 551 GTI5510M

Jadesun

Lurker
I have a Samsung Galaxy 551 GTI5510M - Android version 2.2.2

I want to do something as simple as adding 2 small mp3 files to the sd card to use them as ringtones. When i link the phone to the computer (USB cable), windows explorer does not even recognize the device.

I have no idea how to do this simple task. And also I didn't see my phone
Samsung Galaxy 551 listed anywhere. Can someone help as to how i can use my short mp3's as ringontes and how to get them on the sd card.

Thanks kindly. - Jadesun

Do you have the drivers for your phone installed on your pc? If not install Samsung Kies from the following link. This will also install everything needed for your pc to recognise your phone.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP

Once Kies is installed reconnect your phone, pull down the notification bar and select contact as usb mass storage and it should show on your pc

When you plug the phone into the PC, does the phone ask if you want to use it as storage? If so, enable storage mode where it will disconnect the SD card from the phone and connect it to the PC; your PC should detect it and install drivers for it.

If this doesn't happen, does the PC do anything when you plug the phone into it? Does Device Manager list it or any unknown devices?

Thanks so much for your help. I've downloaded the Kies and with it I can see my phone in Windows Explorer, I can also see my contacts on the phone, I can see 3 pictures that I have. But as far as the phone goes, I still don't unerstand how to add a custom ringtone. Seems that the only ones available are what came with or are currently on the phone.

the above kies seemed to work, but even with that installed, i do not seem to have much control over the phone, certainly not ringtones...seems that the only ones i can access are the ones that came with the phone :(
