Samsung Galaxy 6 stolen

Nothing more sickening than having your phone stolen.I wouldn't mind but it's not insured and as its blocked the thief can't do much with the device anyway( sell on eBay with false account but buyer still got useless device).Meanwhile I'm left with my HTC one (m7) which is ok except overheating and charging seems painfully slow when used to Sammy fast charge feature .Also miss the sammy camera which I thought was amazing.I find the HTC better for connecting to wifi in shops etc I'm not sure why but Sammy 6 was nightmare connecting to wifi networks.Device stolen a few weeks ago I'm feeling ok about now but I'm definitely insuring next device when I can afford.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I'd be pretty sick too. Did you tr tracing it on Android Device Manager?

Yea it says location unavailable unfortunately. I can't really afford another yet but I've noticed they've dropped considerably in price the last few months to buy outright. Think I'll save for a new one and insure via the bank next time.

I just bought an HTC One M9 for my daughter because she listens to a lot of NetFlix and MP3s. ( it has the good front facing speakers )

Also, she has an active store front on FB and the phone is a great asset to her.... at the time I got it, I looked at used (no warranty, seller unknown). then I looked at another Galaxy S5 like mine ( she I should have, it is 10 times cheaper )...

but, ole dad, said she had to have the "best".... so I bought it through Verizon and added on their $3/month insurance fee.

For myself, I have never insured a phone, I have bought as cheap as I can.
Also, I always use a Neck Strap, a heavy one that is 3/8 inch wide and loops thru the Military style case I bought for the phone.
the phone can never get away from me, if I use it in public, the strap is wrapped around my wrist.
If in my pocket, it is around my neck. (always carry phone in T-Shirt pocket)

I feel for your loss, it hurts.... I am on Social Security now, and can't afford losses... the little company pension helps a bit but is far from being Gold Plated.

Too late for this one. When you setup your next phone I suggest the first thing you add is ...

Android apps for your protection
Android Device Manager – free – remotely track your phone if lost or stolen – remote Factory Data Reset
Android Device Manager (Website) – control device from website
Android Device Manager (Android app) – enable capability on device
Cerberus – paid – remotely track your phone if lost or stolen – remote Factory Data Reset – remote take picture
Cerberus Anti-Theft – enable capability on device
Client Cerberus – control up to three devices remotely

I use Cerberus. Taking a picture remotely from the front facing camera might help the police in nailing the thief.

... Thom

I assume it works if the phone is turned off etc?

Not likely...you're best bet would be if the app / method had recorded a history and you could trace it to it's last known/seen location (i.e., if you had already enabled Android Device Manager on/for your device).

A powered off device isn't going to be sending-out any kind of signal, location information, unfortunately :(.

Sorry to hear about having your S6 pinched, @dylanesque.

Yea thanks guys. One thing I'm not sure is that I contacted my phone company who blocked the device. Now i wonder if I should have done after all the device has my fingerprint and password protection thus the Android device manager might work better?

thanks for the information. with these apps android device manager, cerberus anti-theft.. will it render my device unusable or will the theft be able to sell my phone? sorry have no idea.

about 2 weeks late on this answer, but the OP needs to be sure the phone is reported as stolen so the IMEI is blocked to anyone trying to register the device.

also ADM will only work if it is installed, and has access to the internet and the phone is still registered in the user's name. The location accuracy with ADM is not good enough for me though.

Yes I did get IMEI blocked straight away. I think a lot of the device managers are not useful if the stolen phone is not turned on.Its very frustrating as the device is useless to them except maybe a drop test on YouTube .

It is my lowly opinion to try and not allow your device to be stolen at all.

When I am out and about, there is a Neck Strap on my phone's case and it goes over my neck.
but, I keep my phone in my shirt pocket.... you could do the same in a pants pocket by looping it around your belt.
