Samsung Galaxy Gio Camera

My wife's Samsung Galaxy Gio's camera function never seems to work when she wants it too. It mostly never works and rarely it does work. She would get some sort of handle error message when trying to use the camera. Sometimes restarting the phone works and sometimes it doesn't. I tried to do an update through Samsung Kies, but it doesn't find an update for it.

I was wondering if rooting the phone and installing a different Rom would help and make the camera more reliable/stable?

Thanks,

Afrowookie

Unlikely. This is an old, budget phone. It was low end when it was released, today it is a dinosaur. The problem could be lack of memory. Pictures take up lots of space, and there may not be enough to save anymore.

Not to mention, there are likely very, very, very few ROMs (if any) for that phone. It's not something developers buy. My advice: Upgrade

yes we kinda knew it was a budget phone when we got it, she doesn't really use any of the features on it. Just needed a phone that can text decently and be able to take pictures every now and then. Low and behold the camera never works when she needs it too. If we upgrade, can we just get another phone, whether used or new and just swap out the sim card so she can still use her phone number?

As that's exactly how it works. That's the beauty of the GSM standard. Just slide the SIM card into a compatible phone.
