Help Samsung Galaxy Grand Slow Performance after JB 4.2.2 upgrade.

Hello all,

I have upgraded my Galaxy Grand Duos I-9082 from Jelly bean 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 and the phone hangs randomly. on 4.1.2 it was working truly commendable. I appreciate if anybody can help on this issue and give me tips to do away with the slow performance.:(

Thanks,
Sagar Kapadia

Yep.. I have got the same issue after the upgrade. Unable to restart it as well. That too not when having loaded too many applications and not even any live wallpapers. Maybe the processor is not capable... Thinking of ways to downgrade

Hi Arunnos,

I did a master reset of my phone. However, i could not roll back to 4.1.2 but after resetting and re installing the apps, it is working fine. After the hard reset and without adding external apps the phone gives a better performance without lags and runs faster. Had it been a processor issue, the phone could have run slow with the factory installed apps. So, i think it is not the processor issue. I think it is some apps compatibility issue.

Dear Friends, I am having a Galaxy Grand, after upgrade to 4.2.2 Android version, overall performance has been effected which includes browsing contacts, gallery, browsing any messenger and even opening any browser takes a lot of time. Is there any way to reach our voice to Android Developers. What is the way out, appreciated there are good features, but its not worth to go for them and compromising performance. For Galaxy Grand 4.2.2 Haptic Feedback is also missing.

i did a hard reset and installed all the apps again after updating to 4.2.2 .. its not slow now .. better performance .. however i lost so many good options and multi task doesn't work at all .. am getting a new update today .. i hope by this update they have fixed those bugs .. keeping my fingers crossed .. currently updating ..

How did you guys update your phones? Thru KIES or OTA. I ask as my net connection for the worse with no respite in sight.

you get back all the option by
go to setting->MY Device->home screen mode->
and select standard mode.
and now all you missing option is there

for multitasking
1-enable multitasking from notification tray
2-now long press the 'back button' so side bar is appear on screen.
now enjoy multi tasking.

awesome .. that works .. so standard mode it is .. thanks a lot rutvik ..
i got all my options back .. multi task window is working now ..
performance was great after the hard reset from the beginning itself ..

how did you find this out .. ?? am curious to know .. :D

Updated to 4.2.2 today. Tried to do it thru KIES downloaded in 1hr 40 mins while installing it gave an error after waiting for about 45 mins I disconnected the USB cable. Had to remove the battery to switch off. After restarting the phone (I was surprised it did), I downloaded the update via WiFi it took only 43 mins & another 14 mins to install. After the main update of 488.67MB the second update 7.82MB & the third was of 67. Something MB. After downloading the file via wifi, it then offers you the option of installing immediately or do it later (which you can schedule) The 2nd & 3rd were called stability patches. I haven’t explored the phone just now, will do it later.

that's interesting .. only 488mb huh !! .. for me it took 1gb twice .. your set is samsung grand only right !! or is it something else .. your profile shows your set is samsung galaxy ace .. is it because of that, change in update file size .. infact one of my friend got s4 and the update he got was only about 400mb like you .. hmm something fishy in updating through kies .. anyways .. am glad your mobile is alright even after getting those error .. i would have fainted if that happened to me though .. lolz ..

:) I personally use a Galaxy Ace but a family member uses the Galaxy Grand i9082 which I updated yesterday. I haven’t really explored the phone after the update but some things mentioned here I did have a close look. Home screen mode by default set to ‘Standard Mode’, I have the option of Import/export to/from SIM. Yes the crash/hang stunt almost gave me instant ulcers :(. I blame myself for opting for the KIES method of updating whereas as on my own phone I used the OTA option as I know KIES is a *hit s/w. Actually I used the KIES option as my internet connection was a bit dodgy i the last 2-3 weeks but had seemed to stabilised in the last 2 days.

Does any one know how to remove the chaton & google icons and add new icons on the lock screen, want to add something else

hey... you can change your lockscreen apps:

1. GO to settings-Lock screen-shortcuts
2. After enabling the feature simply remove Chaton ang google by dragging it off.
3. You can add your fav short cuts after this.

Yes I got it too. See post #14 & #16. I as a rule wait for a couple of weeks after the updates/patches are rolled out as I don't want to do beta testing for Samsung :p

Got it but that only allows us to add icons of apps installed, what about the widgets on the phone any way I can add those especially the one called 'assistive light'.

Hi,

I downloaded the 60 MB pack a couple of days back and my phone is back to its normal speed. Happy guy here. :) ..

Just an off-topic qn, maybe you guys can help. I have got an Airtel sim in slot 2 which I use for calls alone and a BSNL sim in slot 1 for 3G alone. However the BSNL 3G gets disconnected when a call comes in Airtel. Fumbled with all settings, but not sure why :(

Just bought a Galaxy Grand i9082 today which came with 4.2.2. I noticed something just now is that google installed apps like maps, chaton, hangouts, you tube. Google play music, gmail etc can be ‘disabled’, yes that’s right if you don’t want it just disable it. Of course I have not tried it yet so don't know if it will create a stability issue.

After the updates mentioned above there was an update today of 12.79 MB.;)
