Samsung Galaxy III - screen won't turn off

My Samsung Galaxy III won't go into idle mode, until it times out. When I manually turn the screen off, it immediately turns back on. Also, the restart screen constantly pops up, no matter what I'm doing on the device (texting, browsing the web, etc.).

When I turn the device off, it vibrates every 3 seconds, unless I remove the battery.

I even tried a full factory reset. It still does it. It's pretty annoying.

Is this a just a hardware problem? Am I going to need a new phone?

A friend of mine had almost the same situation. I decided to take a look at it for him. All i did was clear the cache on some apps and delete some that he really wasn't using. Things went back to normal. You may also look into your security settings and make sure that there are not any administrators on your phone that you haven't given permission to. IMHO i think that it's a mild glitch in some of the S3 firmeware(could be wrong though). Anyway good luck!

Thanks a lot for the replies.

I did try clearing out cache and deleting unused apps. And I assume that restoring the phone to factory setting should have also cleared away any needless crap. Plus, I wasn't close to maxing the storage on either the phone or the card, so I don't know what's going on.
