Help Samsung Galaxy light...?

Does anyone here have the Samsung Galaxy Light from T-mobile? If so, does the phone maintain a 4G connection? I have read around the net that the phone cannot maintain a 4G connection.

I have the same phone with T-Mobile, and it seems to maintain a 4G connection. However, I'm connected to WiFi whenever possible .

I know you posted this a few months ago... But I'll reply just in case.. I am in the SoCal (LA) area and when I'm not on WiFi my light maintains a pretty much constant 4G LtE connection....even in some areas that many people don't even get reception.

I'm in SoCal as well, and I have LTE all day......... I am able to get 43/28 LTE in my backyard all day, inside it drops to 24/16 :D:D............ SWEEEET.......... now if I can only figure how to bypass the Tmobile Tether block BS :confused::confused:

I'm also in SoCal with the benefit of having a T-Mobile tower almost next door. The LTE connection is very good.
Not sure what the tether block thing is but on my rooted Light I use WiFi Tether Router. Works great.

That's great!! I also have a rooted phone, however I couldn't get WiFi tether router to work, it keeps crashing and not starting, it's version 5.9...
Can you please share your exact settings, please :)

Well, so far it doesn't work when the method is set to Auto. Because I have multiple computers and operating systems I wanted the tethering to work with my hardware router (set to client mode).
In WiFi Tether Router I set it to auto but that didn't work. Then tried manually setting it to Method 2 (Jellybean) which also didn't work. Then tried Method 3 (hostapd) which also didn't work. Method 4 (using native tether) did work.
This was just before Windows XP went end-of-life. Since I lost my cable internet back in August I had a lot of updating to do.
Via WTR I was able to update two WinXPs, one XPx64, Win7, a couple of Linux distros, and OpenIndiana (formerly OpenSolaris) and yet there was little increase in tether data usage so I do believe it's working well.
Before finding WTR I kept upgrading my tether data plan because I kept hitting the
limits. Once the above seemed to be working out I increased the 4G data to unlimited.
If WTR is truly working out I need to reduce the tether plan to save some money which got kind of expensive (Unlimited 4G plus 11GB tether I think).

There have been a few updates of WTR since then so I keep trying the other methods. Lately I notice that with Method 3 (hostapd) my router is picking up the signal (solid wi-fi light instead of blinking) which means it's almost there but there's still no connection to the outside world.
The latest versions of WTR have added the ability to hide SSD and also there's an LTE patch option. Not sure which of those aided in the router picking up the signal.

I did make the change to the APN settings on the android to use IPV4 as originally mentioned in WTRs description.

The whole idea of using a VPN or changing useragent strings in the browsers I haven't tried yet to further reduce any tether data footprint (too lazy). :-)

Man, forum tells me I can't submit and edit to my post. Bah!
In the time it takes me to type something the forum is constanly logging me out.

Additional entry follows...

Regarding the other methods not working: I haven't even figured out what to do with any of the DNS settings in WTR. The router still has the old OpenDNS entries. I wonder if keeping those in is overriding or causing an issue with the DNS entries in WTR.
I'll probably check on that later.

Okay, things are definitely better. Things work great with almost default settings.

Wi-Fi Tether Router
-------------------
Interface Auto or wlan0 (Or Suggested by the app)
Method 0 - Auto
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
DHCP Internal

Hardware Router
----------------
ASUS RT-N16 with TomatoUSB (shibby)
Removed old DNS entries
Set to client mode
Use SSID, wpa2-psk, and key as set in WTR

Immediate connection by hardware router, DNS entries added, OSes have internet
access with no issues.
Will keep an eye out on tether usage to see if things are working as expected.
Happy camper so far.

Note: APN was previously set to IPv4 on phone.

Individual Method testing shows that Method 3 (HostApd) doesn't work for me using any of
the settings listed at the author's site. Normally that's the method to use for Samsung phones.
In my case Method 2 (Android 4.2 or higher) is what works.

Pay the $8 for the PdaNet/FoxFi key, and use the USB tether to give internet to your computer (requires installation of companion program on PC side). Select "Hide Tether Usage" in the settings (on PC), and you can use your Unlimited data from T-Mobile without using your hotspot allocation.

I also need a new phone and on newegg, howard forums, and amazon, lots of reviews say bad antenna and dropped calls. I went to a store in NYC yesterday and it was fine. But they probably have a booster or something. I was visiting my sister. And now I'm back in Chicago. I will goto a store here and ask what the deal is. Hope its good. Great to see all the positive replys.

I went to a store today. Something odd. I was testing constantly 20-24mb with ookla speed test. In NYC I was testing about 30mb. Same samsung galaxy light with 4glte. And both said lte on the top of the phone. Not on the phone but when you are on the phone where all the symbols are on top like wifi, etc. So lte is not as good here but he said in late 2013 same store lte will be ready by end of year 2013.
