How do you change the default screen (phone) that appears after initial entry swipe?

I guess you mean the wallpaper - if not ask again!

settings (swipe down from top, then cog)
display & wallpaper
wallpaper
home screen (you can select lockscreen here to change the background before you swipe)
select an image
set as wallpaper

No, it's not the wallpaper. This is a replacement phone and at the start it requires a swipe to open and then the default screen is the phone.

Do you mean the dialer? If so I suspect you are starting your swipe at bottom of the screen where the phone symbol is. Swipe somewhere else maybe..

yeah, swipe it sideways and stay away from the Command Bar at the bottom
