samsung Galaxy Note users please help me!

I have had my new phone for a few days now and having switch over from a blackberry I am having a little problem figuring out how to work a few things and its surprisingly hard to find answers for what I am looking for. So if you could please help me out and answer a few questions for me.

Can you customize text tones for different contacts or do they all just use what ever tone that you set for all texting?
if you can customize, how do i do that.

I have been reading a bit about rooting the phone, and I am not sure it would really be all the beneficial for me. Is yours rooted? what ROM are you using now? is it worth it? how easy would it be to brick the phone trying to root it?

I think that is all for now, if you know any helpful tips or hits that you think could help me figure out this new phone anything would be greatly appreciated

Honestly, if you find you dont have a reason to root, you dont need to.

To have a specific ringtone per contact, you need to use a different SMS app other than the stock Samsung app. I recommend Go SMS Pro.

I agree with chanchan05 about the rooting of the phone.

I also have used Go SMS for texting but recently went back to Handcent. Both are free and both do what you want and a great deal more besides.
