Help Samsung Galaxy S charging problem

Hi,
When I try to connect the charger when the samsung galaxy mobile is off to charge it. It automatically turns on and starts to charge. Is this normal?

Are you sure it turns on? It actually shows a charging battery animation.

It goes to the same screen that i get when i turn on the mobile and i can use it as normal. I thought there should be just a battery sign when it charges when it is off.

I am having the same problem also.
Just started a couple of days ago.
Haven't made any changes to the phone recently.

I have the same problem , just after upgrading from froyo 2.2 to 2.3.4 (cyanogenmod 7).

I don't know if there is a relation between upgrade and this problem.

any suggestions?
