Help Samsung Galaxy S GPRS no longer working

jrfriend

Lurker
My phone froze earlier today. I had to remove the battery and reboot. Everything seemd okay until I tried to connect to the internet (not via Wi-Fi, it's not available in my current location).
I have tried with Network Mode GSM and WCDMA and neither work. When I tick/untick the "Use packet data" setting nothing happens - I used to see the phone think about it then see the arrows and 3G symbol at the top of my screen, but now nothing happens. My Access Point Names for Orange seem okay, they haven't changed.
When I go to Settings and check the Status I can see Mobile network type = UMTS and Mobile netwrok state = Disconnected.

Any ideas of what to try anyone please?

Modelnumber = GT-I9000
Firmware version = 2.3
Baseband = I9000XXJPY
Kernel = 2.6.32.9
Build = Ultimate.Webstar1

Thanks
