Does it only change when you use the browser? If it does that means that you haven't changed the browser brightness setting, which can be seen when you press the menu soft key...

Also there is a nifty shortcut which you can use, just slide your finger over the notification bar from left to right to increase the brightness or right to left to decrease it...

I hope that helps... Use the brightness widget by curvefish which is available in the android market...its quite useful..

Cheers...:)

Also check if "Automatic Brightness" is enabled.

Anybody gave firefox a try ? I personally found it very system heavy when compared to the stock browser / opera / skyfire ... Sites didnt even open that fast ...

However since this is a beta , you can expect some issues , but when the apk itself is 11.5 mb you can expect the browser to be a mammoth .. apparently it take up over 30 mb when installed

The plug ins are a nice idea , but mozilla should definitely release a "lighter" version for those who dont need the browser to be uber powerful ...

Id be happy if anyone can also post their feedback once they have tried the browser out ... thanks ...

firefox beta is indeed not good, its heavy and does not open many pages, its slow...out of all the other browsers out there I like the stock browser the best, its just we get froyo + flash support soon on SGS then it will be perfect, I dont need any 3rd party browser

I had tried the alpha release and it was bad...I have read feed backs that it has a long way to go before it can catch up with the existing browsers such as Dolphin HD and the stock android browser. Regarding the app size, mozilla have mentioned in the website that they are working towards reducing this. I will wait till things improve and then install it. I really like the desktop version and hope they can replicate it.

No electronic device will come with two batteries. Bad marketing. The battery life is quite good. Gives me about 36 hours easy, with moderate usage. Quite a bit of calling, use a lot of the twitter apps and browse now and then.
Then again look at that screen!
If you cleverly tweak the settings you can definitely squeeze a lot out of it.

Hey guys I bought a Samsung galaxy s on 9-10-2010 from Pune. Paid 28k with bill n warranty. I just wanted to know when we will get a froyo update. I'm on 2.1 update 1 I9000DDJG4. Also I wanted to know is there any good cases available in India. I wanted to buy case like the one available for Iphone. Has anyone applied an invisibility shield or screen guard for the screen?

The Official Froyo update has yet to be released by Samsung.
An unofficial version is available which you can download(by a process called rooting) but you will void the Warranty on your phone, unless you unroot after that. There are small chances of bricking(render useless - temporarily or permanently) the phone.

As for the case, I guess you're referring to a Flip-case. You could search various mobile stores and find some there.

Yes, I have applied a screen guard on my phone. If you'd like to know whether it has had any effect on the touch sensitivity, then I would say that I don't feel it, it seems to be working just as good.

Have a splendid time with your phone! :)

Hi All! Recently bought my SGS online through flipkart. Price was better (Rs. 27749/-) & it was delivered one day ahead of schedule.

First impressions:

(1) Display: No surprises here, the 4" Super AMOLED screen is a pleasure to look at, although it drains the battery quite a bit. Live wallpapers looks really good.

(2) Telephony: Samsung has done pretty well in this dept, you can link contacts from diff accts (google, facebook, twitter) & the activities tab lets you view all updates for a single contact. There are a few minor quirks like not being able to delete multiple contacts & choosing a default pic.

(3) Widgets: Here is where Samsung fails miserably & I knew it before buying the phone. It just doesn't compare in quality to those in HTC & having too many of them slows the phone a lot.

(4) Apps: Referring to ones provided by Samsung. I liked Asphalt & Facebook. Vlingo Voice is nice to start with but its accuracy is low, so can't use it on a practical basis. The other apps like RoadSMS, robert parker, etc. aren't relevant in an Indian market (at least for me). The other std apps like Email, Calendar, Internet work well.

(5) Battery: Although I'm still conditioning my battery, its given me max 30 hrs till date. I'm using the phone a lot, so it might last longer with normal usage.

(6) Kies: Initially, I felt bad that it ships only on windows, but the usability is so poor, I don't think I'm missing anything here except official firmware updates.

I'm still coming to grips with the customization monster that is Android. Glad to see a lot of folks here willing to help out noobs like myself.

Could someone pls guide me with:

* FAQs to familiarize myself with rooting, flashing, roms etc. Basically a list of steps to convert the stock SGS into a blazing gizmo (with no lags!)

* List of best & popular apps in the Android market. Its an ocean out there! I wish the market app could sort results based on ratings, downloads.

Thanks!

Also please let me know where should i get HTC weather clock as i see many clocks in market and not sure which one is HTC one.

I have had the phone for about a month now. For the last 10 days, having issues with the pictures. After taking a picture, when i open the gallery,

1. I can see the picture as a thumbnail but not when i open it.
2. Sometimes doesn't come up as a thumbnail either.

The pictures i shot when i brought are still on and can see them without any problems.

Has anybody faced this problem and be able to help?

It also lags a bit these days.

Thanks
