can you suggest some apps to backup contacts, SMS & other app data? I haven't rooted my phone yet.

I went ahead with the upgrade & it completed successfully. Unfortunately, the 3 button recovery doesn't work even with this firmware (it wasn't working on DDJG4 either). Has anyone else checked?

These are the steps I followed:

1) Power off the device
2) Press & hold volume up & home keys
3) Press & hold power (holding all 3 buttons now)
4) When the Galaxy S logo comes, release the power button
5) Continue holding the volume up & home keys

At this point, its supposed to get into recovery mode, but boots normally.

Device version:

PDA: I9000DDJP6
PHONE: I9000DDJP2
CSC: I9000ODDJP5

Hi kalpik,
Any suggestions regarding the voice search issue,(posted in detail in my previous post) when setting the language to English(India) ?

(Is it working properly for you?)
Also , any suggestions on how to get Voodoo color fix in my Doc_V9_BUJP8?
Hmm.. This is weird.. I have the same problem with English (India) in Google Voice Search.. And no, voodoo color is not out for froyo yet..

Let me Guess.. Its like this..

Vibrate (Pause)(Pause)(Pause) Vibrate Vibrate

If its this pattern Then its a sign that there is an app which is not responding and it will Force Close. This is a new thing in Froyo that I have observed myself.
If its not this. Then I am not sure of what u r talking about.

Tried that a couple of times, didn't work :-(

Then I guess u have one of these phones. Read the below mentioned threads carefully and u r issue will be fixed. I fixed mine thru this method.

[WARNING!] Do Not flash Any ROM until you can get the 3 buttons DOWNLOAD MODE working - xda-developers

and

[FIX][UPDATE: 30.Nov.2010][110% SAFE] 3-Button Combo FiX for Selected/ALL Firmwares - xda-developers

Let me know how it goes. I did it on Eclair but not sure if its the same for Froyo.

I backed up my data and applications by using My Backup Pro, though there are free apps also available. However, I was pleasantly surprised to know that my data and applications remained intact even after upgrading to Froyo!! Anybody who knows how do I get to true silent mode in Froyo. As of now, when I press silent in status bar or by long holding power buttton, the phone goes to vibrate mode.

Thx, I'll go over them. I'm a bit concerned about bricking my phone & Samsung customer care isn't dependable.

Here's my experience: I called Samsung customer care to find out if they have an "official" solution for this 3 button recovery issue. The mobile dept is never available, apparently only 7 - 8 guys are there (!!), always busy on some calls. After many days, I pinged my complaint ID to their twitter acct (@Samsung_Mobiles) & got a call within a few mins. The best part - The service executive told me that this issue will be resolved with Froyo, but it isn't available in India yet. I tried hard to convince him that I've officially updated to 2.2 through Kies & the issue is still there. Finally, he told me that he will contact some senior engineer & call me back.

The "Logs" show all the logs including Calls as well as Messages, as opposed to Eclair. However, you can tap the "Menu" button and view specific logs, e.g. Dialled, Received, Messages, etc.

i want logs calls only

How does one go back to stock version using ODIN

Search this thread. It has been explained before.

After much deliberation and waiting for official Indian Froyo, I have decided to go for DOC_Kalpik's ROM; but I have a few questions (please note that I am totally new to flashing ROMs and this will be my first attempt.)

1. Which among the 4 would be the best ROM:
BUJP8 v9
XWJPA: V 8
XXJPO: V 8
ADJP5 BareBone .1

2. I am currently on stock Eclair DDJG4, so can I flash the ROM directly without having to worry abt the /system corruption or I will still have to do the fix for the /system corruption?

3. If something goes wrong during flashing or for some reason I want to go back to stock eclair, can I restore back to the rom that I have backed up using ROM Manager?

A1: The latest one - BUJP8 9.01. You can always experiment
A2: Not aware of /system corruption
A3: If something goes wrong, try reflashing it again. If not successful, use Odin to flash.

Hey, that's great. :)..unfortunately don't have net at home. So, don't know when I can try it.

I'm facing a ton of problems with this Rom.
Firstly, voice search is not working. For eg. Navigate to delhi would do a search in google with that query.

Another doubt, how do you install the aosp lockscreen.zip file and doc theme.zip files etc? I tried going to recovery mode and then installing zip from sd card.didn't work.

Now, when opening the camera, a white background us shown, but any pics taken come fine.

Also, the swype 2.6.47 installation didn't go smoothly, on landscape mode, it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Check the download and try reflashing the ROM.

@gmhafiz,
What do you mean by flashing the k9-cwm.zip and which(256,300,500) should be used for flashing? Also, is it at the end, after all the steps, that you have to flash the zip align fix file?

The hardcore's kernel is included in the Doc's rom.

Hi, I finally got to update to Doc's BUJP8 v9. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have Voodo brightness or color fix :( .
Is it working for anyone running JUDP8?
After setting the autokiller to aggressive, I am getting reasonably good free memory.(with strict, it was aweful at 66 MB,
usually only around 110 MB even after killing all apps..will have to take a closer look into that, as it is not
fully solved.)

But, the biggest problem I am facing is that when setting the voice recognition language to English(India), it
(finally) recognizes what I speak, but always does a google search. For eg. Navigate to Delhi, would be shown as a
google search. But, when setting to any other English (For eg.English(Generic)), it is working fine, but is not able
to properly understand my language..

PLEASE HELP, guys!!

Voodoo brightness and colour fix is included in the Doc's rom

Or you can try vlingo. It seems to have more features than google's voice search.

@kalpik, I love the DOC_KALPIK rom but I would like to see how much better the DOC_KALPIK ROM is as compared to the stock so as to further appreciate the work gone in behind making the DOC_KALPIK rom :).

Doc's rom is miles ahead of samsung's official froyo. Official froyo still uses the broken "RFS" filesystem, which causes the lag and corruption in your phone. It is only noticeable after a few days using it.

There are a lot of lagfixes available in xda-developers. Most custom ROM uses ULK (universal lagfix) which enables you to choose what kind of lagfix you want.

If you guys want the best experience with the phone, I suggest to take take time to read the forum posts in xda developers.

There are some posts saying poor battery life after upgrading to froyo. You guys should upgrade while the battery is full. Otherwise you must recalibrate the battery.

I am now using Insanity custom ROM. It feels a lot faster than Doc's rom. For example, there are no stuttering of moving around icons in the homescreen and adding widgets. Scrolling in the app drawer is also smoother.

It's amazing that people will spend hours, days and months researching, re-installing new ROM after new ROM, but have a problem with a fraction of a millisecond of delay in moving an icon around. :)
Just a comment.

That's right. Since samsung released the source code for froyo, development will only continue forward. These developers all around the world will give us the best experience available to us.

All of that is possible thanks to android which is based on linux.

My first question was related to this post by kalpik ,
as mentioned in the thread's first post, in order to fix the corruption issue.

Anyway, I did it using CWM-300Mhz..
(Flashing, I assumed was the same thing as install zip from sd card option, in clockwork mod).

I am sure that Voodoo fix is not available in this. I reflashed the ROM multiple times.

In Voodoo fix, brightness would go really low, plus because the color fix works only in 100% brightness, there would be a remarkable difference in color when u increase the brightness from 99% to 100%.

If there are other ways to get the voodoo fix, I'll be happy to do it..(Anything, which doesn't involve yet
another data wipe ;) )

Lol, that is hardly a fix. So, can I confirm that English(India) is not working for your ROM also?(Now, insanity ROM)
One of the reasons I wanted Froyo was the English(India) voice setting, and I've read in a forum about a T-Mobile G2 user having no issues with
navigation etc. when using English(India), so I guess it is definitely not a froyo issue..

I would love to know whether , the froyo's India release fixes that. (ie Voice search using English(India) works properly in the latest Indian ROM)Anyone???

Are you sure about the battery calibration thing? (If so, there is an option to delete the battery history somewhere
in clockwork mod right? Can you tell me where?)

has anybody faced issue setting up the exchange account. After updating to Official froyo. I am facing issue. My inbox is not getting sync. All emails are not downloaded yet. Calender is in sync though.

I have a lazy approach dealing with the RFS corruption issue. First I use odin to flash JM8 (eclair). Then, I flash the fixed kernel. Not sure if this really works or not.

I remembered using voodoo when I was on eclair. The colour changes on 100% brightness. I suppose after upgrading to froyo/custom ROM, just flash the voodoo kernel to get all of the voodoo goodness.

I haven't installed google voice/vlingo right now. So I cannot tell you now. Perhaps other users reading this thread can enlighten us. You can request to have english(india) to be included in the custom rom to the maker in the appropriate thread in xda.

I remembered Doc's recommendation to flash while the battery is full.
1. Drain & Recharge till full (may not be needed, not sure)
2. Boot into recovery > advanced CWM features > Wipe Battery Stats
