Help Samsung Galaxy S not recognised by Kies software on my Windows 7 64 bit PC

For what it's worth here is a description of my experience.
Installed Kies and rebooted. Plugged in Galaxy S via USB. Windows 7 64 bit reports unrecognized device.
Kies is a 32 bit application and ships with 32 bit USB drivers which are installed under the Kies installation directory. The install exe gives the version number 1.4.4.0.
These drivers need to be uninstalled and replaced with the Samsung 64 drivers - Samsung_Mobile_Driver_V1.3.800.
How to fix.
Don't uninstall Kies. Just uninstall the 32 bit drivers using the exe in the install directory.
Shutdown and power off the pc for 60 seconds to ensure the usb driver cache is cleared.
Restart the PC.
Download and install the 64 bit drivers.
Restart the PC.
Connect the Galaxy S in Kies mode.
Windows should now detect the Galaxy S and configure the 64 bit drivers.
The phone will show up as a USB device in Windows file explorer and the files on the phone are fully accessible.
Start Kies.
The phone will appear in Kies after a couple of minutes.
Remember. Every time you update Kies it installs the 32 bit drivers so you will have to repeat this exercise again.

Don't need to install/reformat anything... The SD card solution works well..
What worked for me:
1. Connected GalaxySL to Kies.. "Trying to Connect Device"... message.
2. Remove the external SD card, while still connected, and wallah!! the phone (internal SD) is detected.
3. Reconnect the SD card, and Kies discovers the external SD card too.
Done...
