Samsung galaxy s rooted and unlock question

I would like to say hi i am new to all this

I have a SGS rooted on 2.1 firmware so i could unlock it using the galaxy s tool from the android market.

I would like to know can i now update to the latest firmware using samsung kies and still have my phone unlocked?

Other users of your device are the best to offer help and advice. I am not familiar with the SGS (even though my wife has one), but I do know that their software (keis) isn't very good - or hasn't been when I've tried to do anything to my wife's phone!
