Samsung Galaxy S

I haven't tried GPS much but I do get Navigate running with my correct GPS location. I've heard about the problems and expect I'll have them too if I put it to the test. The basics however seem to work.

One more issue that really has to get fixed is the 3 button combo for download mode (akin to our recovery mode). That is disabled on most of the Galaxies currently shipping (even with root). This feels deliberate and is actually dangerous. They need to fix that on the next update. For now I can get to recovery from adb but if you bugger a flash you're screwed. They will have fewer service calls if people can reflash and fix their own problems.

My GPS works fine but I just use it for NAV with the car.. update will come also with 2.2 in a week or so with new GPS drivers... and my 3 button combo for download mode works.. i'm currently running 2.2 and love it.. as far as not having a LED indicator. you can download the "NoLED" app and you have a indicator on the screen. Something you can only do with and AMOLED Display and not eat up any power.

I wish they would hurry up. My 3g is falling apart and I need to get a phone soon. Glad to hear people are liking them and that updates are coming from Samsung.

Where can we purchase a Captivate outright? I just purchased the new Seidio case and screen protector for it so I am ready for when ever I can get one.

Spoke to a rep at a rogers store today to double check my upgrade eligibility and asked about the Captivate. He said that he had just finished some training on the device and release is coming shortly (whatever that means). He had no idea about the price, but said it will most likely be either $150 or $200 with a $50 rebate if your upgrading. As for the price to buy it outright, he said it will probably be close to the iPhone 4 full price.

Sorry but a 16GB version is $160 more. $660 vs $500 (at Bell with the front camera). The contract price isn't important to me, the true selling price is.

That being said, Samsung will need to fix a few things before this phone is considered good. GPS, lag, broken download/recovery. Otherwise a good phone.

Rogers just made the training available to its employe so the wait should be over pretty soon. I expect something from them between sept. 17 and 24. (crossing my fingers :))

I'm giving this one last chance. I took my Vibrant S back and got a new one. There were too many things wrong with the 1st one.
What's better now:
.3 button recovery mode is now working (this is the biggie).
.GPS is working better. It took a little coaxing to get it going the 1st time but the navigation is now accurate.
.Lag is much better.

I was prepared to leave it in store bought condition and only unlock it before selling it if the recovery mode wasn't fixed. The Froyo update is within the 14 day return period so we'll see if it lives up to its potential.

By chance I was near an HSPA tower and got 5.8M/2.0M speed which is better than my DSL..
