Help Samsung galaxy S

Hey I'm new to this so please hell me out and be patient. Well I recently purchased the Samsung galaxy S and I absolutely love it. The only thing I can not seem to figure out is how to turn off my 3G because it is draining my battering and my bill is high. I even went as far as to download a WiFi app but it doesn't turn off. Please help!!!

If you are running 2.1 (eclair)you need to download an app like Quick settings and turn it off through that or you could create a false apn in the settings and then select it.
If you are running 2.2 or 2.2.1(froyo) just long press the power button until you get a pop up window and then select data network mode to turn it off.
You can check what OS you have by going to menu->settings->about phone->build number.

You can turn off 3G very easily.

At the top the screen the bar with the signal strength/battery symbol drags down and you can use the data button to turn 3G on and off.
