Samsung Galaxy S2 Setups, Performance & Results....

NoBrikz

Newbie
Looking to finally root my Samsung Galaxy S2, in a perfect world I would of liked it rooted, have CWM and cyanogenmod, running on it. I hear there are still some kinks that need to be worked out with cyanogenmod.

Anyhow I figured I would make a thread where everybody can share there SGS2 setup and how its working out for them. That way my fellow noobs and I can possibly use this as a guide to decide on how we would like to set our SGS2's up.

Feel free to post instructions and links where files can be found :D, if not just your specific setup and how you like it will suffice.

Thanks in advance.....

I used to have a custom CWM and CM10 running with no issues except GPS was broke, i believe that can be fixed though. the links can be found here or on XDA in the Epic 4G Touch (E4GT) development forum. XDA does not like to be linked to however. make sure you read up alot first. bc there is a known brick bug when it comes custom recoveries.

presently Im running (JB) Jellyverse v.3 with FK23 Modem and kernal with no issues after fixing MMS and GPS.

At the moment I am fond of the new leaked Jelly Bean ROMs out. they have FK23 and the newer FL04, and there are tweaked versions of them out too. GPS works fine as does MMS (once you change your settings to the Boost ones if you are with Boost)

im sinply using rooted stock with some debloat im sure i can remove more. this setup meets my needs with no problems. ill play these cards

I am running the Blu Kuban ROM.
I had issues with bad 4G speeds which apparently is affected by your Kernel.
To resolve, I'm using the AGAT_FI27_Repack Kernel with Blu Kuban and have good 4G speeds again. I'm very happy with the performance and look/feel of this rom. I've only tried stock/rooted (with the AGAT Kernel to resolve 4G speed issues after root) and this ROM and don't have experience beyond that with this phone. I'd love to try other roms as well if I knew I could run them without killing my 4G.

My favorite app

Im still running stock, just did some update and have no clue what it did. Does anybody know if Megatron or CTMod are coming to the S2 ?

Would still like to hear more setups and how its working out for people. Im going to put Megatron 6.1 on my transform ultra tonight and would like to work on my Galaxy S2 after, hoping things got a little simpler for the S2

I prefer TW based roms, I have tried AOSP but not my thing.I am on GA10 with some mods to it and battery tweaks.

CTMod is a minimalist style ROM. It was very popular with some users on the Prevail due to its lower drag on the phone. I can't really see it being the case for the SGS2 though, with the huge jump in memory and processing power we have.

Well here are my experiences. I'm currently running the Blu Kuban rom and am completely happy with it.
I've run Cyanogen on previous phones so have some experience with CM roms in general although not on our phone. I'm with AprilThe20th in that I prefer TW based ROMs as well.
There is a known issue with rooting and/or custom ROMs where your 4g speeds become terrible. This rom let's me use the kernel that I've had great 4g speeds with (AGAT_FI27_repack kernel) so that capability was a major selling point. My understanding is that is still not possible on AOSP based ROMs such as Cyanogen, so you would suffer horrible 4g speeds on them. This may have been resolved although I don't believe so... You need a repack kernel.
Aside from that, I just think it's super clean and the dev seems to be OCD which is a great thing! It's a very dark themed rom (black/blue) so you won't be getting any rainbow feeling from it!
It uses an Aroma installer that allows you to completely customize the rom for yourself DURING installation which is cool. Performance is great; there's a thread at xda where users are posting their Antutu scores (a thread I've been meaning to start on our forum here!) and Blu Kuban users have respectable scores. Updates for it (and apps, fixes, etc.) are normally OTA which is very convenient.
He has themed a ton of stock apps to match the rom theme (gmail, Dropbox, YouTube, most TW apps, etc...). Battery is respectable. New builds are released regularly and any issues are addressed crazy quick by the dev or community. The latest FL24 build was just released on 1/30.
There's a thread at xda on it that's close to 1300 pages where you can find a lot more info but I give my  thumbs up on it since you're looking for feedback and I've personally been hard pressed to find any complaints on it!
