I first noticed the problem at the weekend. I plugged my phone in to charge it as normal, and the "charger connected" sound went off, immediately followed by the "charger disconnected" sound, then it repeated a few times. I thought it was a dodgy connection so I wiggled the charger around a bit, but it didn't do anything.
Finally it stabilised and started charging. I heard it do the connect/disconnect sound a few more times while it was charging but I ignored it.
Anyway, it got to 100% and I unplugged it. The phone then crashed, and when I turned it back on it had dropped to 82%.
I thought nothing of it and charged it again the next day. The same thing happened with the same connect/disconnect noises sounding off. I got it to charge, only this time the "Fully charged, please disconnect charger" message wouldn't go away. I rebooted the phone and it was fine.
However... Yesterday I was using it, and it just shut off out the blue. I haven't managed to get it to come back on since. It gets as far as the Samsung screen (not the very first 'Samsung Galaxy SII' screen, but the one after that, right before it reaches the operating system). It just sits there, no matter how long I leave it for. Eventually it will turn itself off, but then start booting automatically, only to get stuck at the same point.
I thought at first it was a battery problem, but I replaced it and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference.
Once the battery is removed, the phone goes off as expected. But when the battery is put back in it starts to boot without even having the power button pressed.
But however it boots, it still never gets any further than that 2nd Samsung logo.
I would do a complete factory restore, but there are pictures and files I'd like to get off of there first!!
Any ideas!?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: There is a thread below mine with a very similar problem, so apologies if this is too much of a waste of time, but there were a few things that were slightly different so thought it would be of benefit to start my own thread.
