Pulling the battery out will force a shutdown. If you do that, leave it out for a couple of minutes, then see whether it's any better.
Does the power button do anything, or is it completely unresponsive? It's possible that the button has broken if it doesn't respond at all. Question then is whether forcing it to shut down is a good idea (in case you have trouble turning it back on)?
