Samsung Galaxy S3 duplicate contacts problem

I have a Galaxy S3 which I enjoy. Have 3556 contacts which I mistakenly tripled recently to about 11,556. How do I delete all the duplications as my system has slowed and is causing other related problems.

Also, my wife and I both have android systems, a Motorola Bionic and my Galaxy
S-3. We want to have our calendars share info so we have same info at all times.
